What's that store named?
« on: March 28, 2009, 10:17:53 PM »
Thought it was silly but reading the list I've found that we all have the same name for some of the thrifts. Years ago my checkbook looked like I was paying people off for blackmail 'er somethin'!

Sally - that was the Salvation Army (Alas now here the prices are more than retail. Sigh!)
Vinny - St Vincent, that does sound like a mob boss eh! (Alas very few left in our area - Pacific NW)

GD - Goodwill or was it a code name for protection!

VV - Value Village . . . don't know what you'dthunk.

Paws - awe how sweet obviously the Humane Society.

Do you know that I don't record anything but checks written and I'm more likely to get a cashier's check from my bank (4 free a month.) Checks are the most vulnerable way to pay for something. It gives people way too much information about you and your bank account.

I just opened my first checking account in over 10 years (actually way longer.) Yes- now that many places no longer accept the paper variety. I do not use credit cards, so have never been able to purchase anything online. Honestly- I don't know how PayPal works!

I have not yet written a check and now I read your post.
Positive side - I will be keeping closer track of expenses
Negative -  I will have greater purchasing power,  I did get the dread Debit  card.  When it arrived in the mail with its bright shiny VISA logo I thought OH NO someone sent me a real credit card and almost cut it up then and there.

This is why I love vintage and pre-owned. Not only am I cheap (genetically programmed) but I am out of touch with modern finance.

There's a great little thrift shop in Chandler, AZ run by the East Valley Assistance League.  I signed up to receive notices of sales via email.  Everytime I get one, I laugh out loud because their email address is AssLeague@xxxxx.com.  I don't know if these are sent out by a particularly "cheeky" (pardon the pun) individual, or if they are just clueless to the fact that they haven't picked the ideal address.

So, the next time you're in Chandler, stop by the Ass League store.  It should make for an interesting entry in your checkbook.
Shop smart. Shop S-Mart.

That is hilarious - maybe they like the humor factor?   Leads to a memorable address!
