Shiny Brite Christmas Bulbs!
« on: November 23, 2012, 04:02:50 PM »
I am so excited! I found 5, like new boxes of vintage boxes of 4 packs of Shiny Brites Christmas Tree bulbs! They are a soft off white color, with gentle Christmas scenes on them, not "garish" at all. They are just wonderful. Each box was $1.00! It was at Bishop's Attic in Anchorage, Ak. I only knew about them from reading about them on this site a long time ago. I haven't been on this site for a long time now, maybe a year or so, but I've missed it, and had to let you know about these! I checked Amazon and they sell new for between $25.00 & $35.00 for around 6 "garish" type bulbs......eBay prices are all over the place but I know I could eBay them, they would definitely sell, but I kind of want to keep them! I only have a little 4 foot tree in my 1 bedroom apt. But still, they are just amazing......Thanks for sharing this with me! Barb

Nice find!  And not a moment too soon!

I developed a severe case of Pyrexia from this site, so I know exactly what you're talking about.

Photos would be great....

Congrats on the Shiny Brites!  I haven't found any good ones yet this season.  I have scored a few boxes of Polish ornaments which were later ones, not the 40's/50's kind I really like (probably the "garish" ones you mentioned, haha).  I did end up selling those.  The Sally closest to me just started putting out Christmas stuff so I check everyday for new items.  Post a pic of your tree when you get it up if you can.

Also, if you don't have room for them all on your tree I have made arrangements of ornaments in decorative bowls or glass apothecary type jars- that looks nice too.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'd like to try to post a photo of them but am not sure I know how to do that on this site.....Maybe will try, they are so pretty. Thanks for the ideas about displaying them in a bowl, or jars.....I think they may be kind of large for my small tree, but may try them out & see. I normally use my collection of Alaska Native ornaments on my little tree, but may try the Shiny Brites this year instead. I know I should try to sell them, that would be the practical thing to do, but oh, I just want to keep them! My sister - in - law also collects Christmas ornaments, I'd like to send her a box of them....
After I found the Shiny Brites, I saw a 4 pack box of "Martha Stewart" bulbs for $1.50 at the same store....from K Mart. I still can't believe they were only $1.00 a box! I would have paid more.....They didn't know what they had. But this store is the cheapest thrift store in Anchorage, and I live just about 4-5 blocks away from it. Books are 3 for $1.00 and the 3rd week of each month they are .10 each. I've gotten tons of really great books there, & I'm picky in what I get. I keep some & trade some at the large used book store in Anchorage, where I have several hundred dollars of credit. It's so fun!

If you really like them by all means you should keep them or give some away if you know someone else who would love them.  Maybe you won't use them this year but you may later.  Also if the boxes are in good condition you can display them right in the box.  I see stuff at thrifts that I know will make a profit which I use for bills & stuff (currently kitty vet bills  :( ) but I don't necessarily like them or need them myself .  The Polish ornaments I mentioned weren't ones I really liked so it was easy to sell them.  Sometimes I may keep something for a few years and then decide to sell it if I haven't used it much. I hope you enjoy your Shiny Brites this Christmas!
