Tell Everyone About Your Great Thrift Buys! / Super marvelous finds
« Last post by FleaQueen on November 14, 2019, 11:55:37 AM »
Last Saturday found a G. Girardi-Lenci style woman at this one thrift store where you can occasional find good stuff, but they've been marking up their prices into the stratosphere.  Girardi-Lenci woman wasn't cheap, but at least there's room to make some money.

From there I went to another thrift store where I usually find bupkis.

However they had a Edge, Malkin & Co. tea set: teapot, sugar bowl, and creamer, plus plates.  Torquin pattern, which dates to 1883.  AyFREAKINGmazing condition.

The store I have volunteered  at gives us a 10% off the already 50% of the marked price on the item, but I know of another shop that offers it's volunteers a 50% discount off the marked price.

I use Goddard's Silver Polish Foam.

It works GREAT, but it's best used with rubber gloves, because your hands will get really dirty.

That horse ! and teapot!! What do you use to polish your silver? I'm a maestro when it comes to leather, but a floundering amateur at-best when it comes to silver. Nice finds!

I never thought to look behind old photos at yard sales. Clever! Now I'm more curious about the picture. John <?> Nice haul!

Let's Introduce Ourselves / DapperAndy from Bend, Oregon

Hi Everyone!
I'm DapperAndy from Bend, Oregon. I thrift here and everywhere I travel (lots of road trips). Including: garage sales, estate sales, all thrift stores, craigslist, etc.

I mostly restore old leather pieces - shoes, boots, briefcases, bags, etc. I own a leather care company, so it makes it super easy for me to access the products and tools, restore the items, then either keep, gift, or flip.

Thanks for sharing the knowledge!

Hi Mike --
Sounds cool! What kind of discounts do employees of thrift stores typically get? Funnily enough, I've never asked this question. Might be worth a part-time volunteer or job to get this discount. Welcome!

Hit some yard sales today, total I spent $40.  I found a signed pic behind the bathing suit lady.  Can't figure out if he is "somebody" or not.  My first thought was it was an old photo of Johnny Cash, but consensus is that it isn't him.
