Repurposed record album
« on: January 25, 2009, 06:19:22 PM »
I checked out an altered art book from the library & found a great idea for transforming old multi-record album sleeves into memory albums.  I had been wanting to make a journal cover or album cover without having to buy a new journal or album.  When I saw this I knew I could find some of these old record albums at the Salvation Army.  I found a nice one for 99 cents.  It has a great leather binding & embossed musical intruments down the spine.  Actually the manager wanted to charge me 2.99 for the album, which wasn't right because none of the records were marked & there is a sign that says that records are 99 cents unless otherwise marked.  I told her I just wanted the album & didn't care about the records, so she took the records out & gave me the album for 99 cents.  What they are going to do with the records, who knows?  Real geniuses these people are.

The album pictured in the book is great, but more of a project than I wanted so I went with something simpler using my wallpaper samples, & other goodies.  I am not completely done, but you get the idea.  The records sleeves are not acid free, so you would only want to use copies of pictures.  Great project for a dreary winter day!

Great idea!  I have some of those 78 albums lying around just waiting to be used for something.

There's an old album cover from a set at the local ts that I've been debating. I couldn't think of anything to do with it, even though I like the cover. I guess I'm just going to have to go and get it and then get creative with it. hmmmm.

Some of them have such nice embossed leather bindings they are just begging to be made into something.  Hopefully your thrift will let you keep the records too!  ::)
