My Fireplace
« on: December 03, 2008, 11:54:31 AM »
Since July, I've been working on a new facade for my fireplace.  It's finally done, except for the grouting.  Everything was thrifted except the mastic and backerboard.  I'm posting pictures now as I think grouting it will take so long I may die of old age before I finish!

This is very beautiful. It reminds me of an adobe home in the old Southwest; something out of Willa Cather's _Death Comes For the Archbishop_, perhaps, or maybe a DH Lawrence novel.  Congrats on realizing your artistic vision and doin' it with thrift and style!

Ahem.

May I refer you to your thread, "Look What We Thrifted"?

That took talent! Lots of talent.

You are talented.

Congrats on your talent ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

PS: (Cookie's talented, too. But I bet you knew that already)

That is so unique and awesome, well done! I love mosaics on anything and I have been wanting to work in them (by buying old china in thrifts etc) for so long, unfortunatly I will have to do those kind of things once Iam retired as right now I dont have any time, with work and all, but congrats on something very striking, one of a kind and very pretty! Thanx for sharing! :)

Absolutely astounding. You'd just never run out of things to look at!!

Having done china plate mosaics, I have a good sense of the effort that was required to do that. I take my virtual hat off to you. Best of luck with the grouting, too. Make sure you have LOTS of paper towels.

Lots.

LOTS.

WOW  I could stare at that for hours.
Not great if you want guests to leave and they say - wait I have to check out another part of this. Oh- and look at that!

I may have to try a bit of that but I know "someone"  will tell me I have to use a barn wall.  :(   ???   :D

That's a great-looking fireplace.  I can't imagine the time doing it, plus all the time thrifting to find just the right piece.

Thanks for all the comments!  I am really pleased with how it's turning out and it's nice to know others like it too.  If I ever finish grouting it, I'll post a pic of the end product.
