This year I was going to old school for a Christmas wreath. I've done everything I can think of in year's past and had run dry of ideas, or so I thought.
I bought a pine wreath and was just going to add a big red bow and hang it. I found some red ribbon and started to tie a bow. And tried. And tried. And tried. Not happening. DD came in and laughed at my inability to tie a bow. She tried. And tried. After a while, she got into the ribbon stash and found some antiqued rose and gold French wired ribbon and we managed to get a bow out of that. But something in the colors fired up my brain cells. Out loud I asked, "Would it be too wierd to add on some vintage jewelry?"
DD lookedadn me adn said "Well, for anyone else, yes. For us? That's typical."
So out came the vintage jewelry stash and we got to work. We wired on all kinds of vintage, antiquey looking bits and pieces. We stretched imagination to figure out what relation any of this had to Christmas. The cameo? Mary. The bird? A partridge in a pear tree. The ring? Represents the 5 Gold Rings. The pineappley looking thingie? Hospitality. And on and on. And of course gold was one of the original Christmas presetns. Necklaces and bracelets became garlands looped and swirled thru the wreath. Old Christmas pins are in their element. In the center dangles an old curtain tie back that DD wears as a necklace. I really thought when DH and DS got home they would just groan and roll their eyes like they usually do when DD and I undertake a project. Instead they came in and said how good it looked. (Have we beaten them down over time?)
Wish I could figure out how to post pics to the site.
The wreath is really great looking. Just have to be careful when we take the wreath down to make sure nothing gets thrown away.
