Thrift Shopping in the Phoenix Metro Area and Beyond
« on: March 13, 2006, 11:35:56 AM »
I grew up in Paradise Valley, which is a suburb of Phoenix AZ. I was introduced to thrifting by a guy that I used to hang out with quite a bit.
Thrift shopping in Phoenix is pretty great. The climate is really dry so there isn't the mold or mildew problems with older items that they have in thrift store's in the south. I was born in Birmingham AL and my dad still lives there. I visit him and have done some thrifting there too. Besides having very dry air Phoenix also has the advantage of having millions of retired people living there. They donate tons of things every year, like they do in South Florida. (I read that in Good Buddy's post.)
Outside of Phoenix there's many suburban thrifting opportunities. I can't wait to see the directory when they finish Arizona, hint hint.
Tuscon, Yuma, Flagstaff, Sedona, and Cottonwood, also have good thrift stores.
I've shopped in all the cities above and more. We Arizona thrifters have it nice here. Come visit and thrift.

Chester,

I lived in Tempe and had many great thrift shopping experiences there. I still have the couch I bought at a thrift store in Sedona. I never went to Yuma or Tuscon, just drove up through Flagstff to get to The Grand Canyon a few times and thrifted along the way.
Yes you have it good there. I miss the thrifting in AZ, but the climate is too dry for me. I'm a water sign, water is life. Not enough green in Arizona, Just lots of browns and grays.
Where in Phoenix do you live now?

GB,

I live in Tempe now myself. I'm in a new band and am going to ASU. I rent a house with three bandmates near Hardy and 7th St.
Where did you live? Did you ever frequent Mae West? It "burned down" a couple years ago, I'll miss it.

Hey, I lived in Phoenix for a while and just resently moved to western PA.

I can definatly agree that it is a rather fine thrifting city.
