FAQ

Why are you only listing thrift stores that support charities?

How did you compile this list of thrift stores, and how do you know they are all affiliated with charities?

Why did you build this website?

We built this website to fulfill the needs of thrift shoppers like us who love to thrift anywhere and everywhere they go. When we looked for thrift stores near our home and in our travels, we had nowhere else to turn except the local business phone books and online yellow pages for information. Armed with a list of thrift stores from our search, we ventured out to find these places, only to be confronted with pawn shops, resale shops, antique malls, and non-charity-driven junk shops in addition to the actual thrift stores we were seeking. We created this national database of charity-driven thrift stores because we knew we were not the only avid thrifters running into this same situation. Now, with our directory, anyone can thrift hassle-free without false leads to a dead-end. Don't forget to use our directory when you travel, too. You can turn a ho-hum vacation into a thrift extravaganza! There are millions thrift shoppers nationwide, and now they can all be represented at one location and have a web community for themselves. We hope you enjoy our site, and if you have any ideas or suggestions about the type of content you'd like to see on our site, please let us know.

Why are you only listing thrift stores that support charities?

The definition of a thrift shop is: "A shop that sells used articles, especially clothing, as to benefit a charitable organization." (dictionary.com). We wanted to stay true to the charitable spirit of thrifting, so that's why we only list charity-driven thrift stores. In addition, many times people donate to or shop at a "thrift store," and the store is actually a for-profit resale shop. Therefore, the sales and the donations never benefit any charity. The donors mean to donate to a charitable organization, but they are mislead by the fact that the business has the word "thrift" in their name. Now anyone who wants to support a charity by shopping or donating can use our directory and be sure that their monies and donations do indeed support those charities.

How did you compile this list of thrift stores, and how do you know they are all affiliated with charities?

All the thrift stores in our directory were contacted by us over the phone. We confirmed all of their current information as well as finding out which charities each store benefits. We've spent hundreds of hours and made more than 20,000 calls, so far, to make this directory the most complete on the internet.
