I checked in Franklin Indiana and there only seems to be one thrift store which is The Lords Cupboard. I am sure the store is great but would anyone like another thrift store? I think a Goodwill or Salvation Army would be perfect in that area. We have open available space off I-65 at 100 Holiday Plaza, do you think there would be any interest?

Thrift stores are doing quite well now, if your area is lacking you should email Goodwill, Sal Army etc & let them know you would love to see a store in your area.  A nearby city here just opened a new Goodwill, the prices on clothing are surprising good compared to what others have said about Goodwill.  There had been a Goodwill in that area years ago that closed & now it is back, so obviously they saw the demand for it.  I bet many of the people that are new to thrifting due to the economy will get hooked & stick to the thrifts even when the economy improves.

Thanks for the reply. I am in the process of contacting Goodwill, Salvation Army, etc. What is the nearby town with a Goodwill store?

Sorry, I wasn't talking about Indiana, I was referring to Northampton, MA as I am in W. MA.  Goodwill left this area many years ago, but now is coming back so I guess they are looking to expand and open new stores, I hope you can convince them to open one in your area (although from what I hear on this forum they can vary greatly in quality).  I wish we had some of the other ones I hear about on this forum like St. Vincent's, Savers, etc.  I have never been to any of those.

I've heard for years that the Goodwill up on West Burnside in Portland is the best in the area. The very wealthy live in the West Hills and I reckon that that GW gets their donations.

Unfortunately I'm just too disabled to talk myself into doing that long a run. I live in America's Vancouver. I'm one that thinks that GW's prices are too high, even on Wednesday with my senior discount. I usually go use my birthday (1/2 off) coupon. Sigh!

I do appreciate that GW hires the difficult to place individuals but so do my favorites . . . that would be the Humane Society's "Paws and Claw's".

Our area GW's have a "Club Card". When we buy over $15; we get 5% off but we also get points on our cards. When it reaches a certain point there's an additional discount. I was surprised that just a few miles down the road in Longview WA they don't honor the "Club Card". Different district:  different rules!

When the girls come visit we hit the "As Is". It's by the pound and there are no discounts or use of my club card. They love digging thru the bins. I do find some things but it just kills my shoulder to go bin diving. It's difficult to believe what they find some times. I did find a whole patio set at different times for just pennies. Yes, the chairs need new cushions but what a steal!

Ciao,
Dew
