Hi, I'm new here. Can someone explain "karma" to me? I did a search and not much turned up about it. I get that you can "applaude" or "smite" someone, but generally what is applauded and why would you smite someone?  Can the person see who has applauded or smote them?  Embarrassed

Thanks!

As far as I understand it's the balance from however many times someone applaudes or smites you... so if you get 10 applaudes and 2 smites, your karma score is 8.  It doesn't show who is doing all this, I think it's just anyone who wants to.  (Except you can't applaud yourself!)

If you really disagreed with someone's statements, or if you felt they were using the board for something other than what it's for, I guess you would smite them!

I am so not observant.  I never noticed the karma, the applaud or the smite.  I'll have to start using the feature.  Not too much to smite on this forum though plenty to applaud.

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum.  Look forward to hearing about your finds.

Yup, OtherPeople'sJunk has it right from what I can tell. I think you'll find the folks here are good eggs, not really smite-worthy. Smiley

In all honesty, I did Smite the "ad" from that "legitimate business in Hong Kong" that was put on the site about 10 days ago.

See you next time
bye for now

Seems like there are lots of like-minded folks here. This is exactly what I did, too!

I've been thinking about the Applaud and Smite buttons. I love the Applaud button. You know, if I'm having a bad day and I come here and read something that really touches me, it makes me feel better in my heart to leave somebody an applaud anonomously. It's a small act, but it a positive one.

But the Smite to me is cowardly. Smiting behind someone's back is cowardly to me. If we smite, we should be identified as the smiter.  After all, it takes b*lls IMVHO to tell somebody their behavior--ie., confrontation--is undesirable.  This is just my opinion, folks YMMV and probably does.

Though, of course, I am very happy that everybody smoted that dreadful Hong Kong thing!  I almost did, but after being on this board for almost a year, I knew Good Buddy would take care of that idiot ASAP.
