Here you go, but first -

Sometime in the last two weeks, I scored three rather large clear plastic bags of vintage wrestling magazines ($2.99 each per bag).  I know it hasn't really been brought up, but does anyone else follow professional wrestling?  I used to be way more interested in it than I am now, but since these were vintage (the years I saw were mainly late 1980's through early 1990's).  When I was buying them, the cashier stated that  someone had been asking about them just the day before, and had been told they would be put out that morning at the earliest.  I did have a bit of a "pinge," but hey, timing is one of the golden keys to thrifting.  Not only that, but I bought them for a friend (actually one of my best friends - he's one of 6 men on this planet with whom I would trust my life) who is very much into wrestling, knowing he would get a real kick (if not an atomic pile driver) out of them.

And now back to Wednesday.

I went to 1./2 dozen thrift stores, and got skunked at all but one.  At the one (Goodwill at 7th and Union Hills), I scored an Onkyo AV receiver (for a friend who does thrift, but has no skills whatsoever in finding quality) and a set of 6 Laugh-In VHS tapes - sealed - surprising since Dick Martin just passed away.  I also
scored a bunch of tapes, including Devo's SHOUT which I hadn't heard, but it's a good album.  I also scored two Wilton Cake decorating "magazines/catalogs": Magic for your Table... Cake & Food Decorating by Wilton and Your Personal Guide to Cake and Food Decorating Ideas.  The two Wilton books have both ideas and instructions, and sales sections with item numbers and prices.  The cover price is $1.00, but the thrift had them for .99 (but at 50% off, they were .49 apiece!).

I'm not sure if Cookie has these, but if so, I'll hold onto them.  If not,  they'll make the ride with the deck.  I don't think these are "grail" stuff, but it's a start.

See you next time
bye for now.

Sounds like you found some great things.  I love hearing about that.
A few years ago I found a whole bundle of Star Log magazines all wrapped up and put out in the neighbor's  trash.  She had a son, by then grown and married, and she was down sizing and moving to a smaller place.  Guess sonny boy's old mags weren't going to make the trip. I sidewalk shopped them home with me.  I was looking thru them when the phone rang.  I answered it and was talking when DS, a big Star Wars fan,  came in and looked thru them.  He asked "Hey can I have this?"  Like an idiot I didn't turn around and look  to see what he actually had before I said "Sure" thinking it was just an old mag.  And it was.  The original Star Log commemorative issue they did for Star Wars back in what?  1977? .  A sci-fi fanatic friend laughed and asked if I had any idea what it could be worth.  Told him I didn't really want to know.

BDA,

Cookie and I are not in country right now, we're in Canada. We'll be back on Sunday. I'll let you know about the Wilton books when we get home.

That is so coll that you have found neat stuff for friends.  It is especially fun to get stuff for the "thrift store challenged" because tehy are always so amamzed.

This is exactly what I liek about thrifting--being able to find something unique for someone, something they will appreciate.
