I scored 4 VHS tapes ($3.00 each) at a Soroptomoist Thrift Store in Sun City yesterday - 1 was still sealed.

The 4 episodes/adventures are:

The Five Doctors
The Terror of Zygons
The Pyramids of Mars
The Caves of Androzani (which is supposed to be one of the all-time great episodes)

So now I have something new to watch.  I also scored some high quality VHS blanks, so I can continue to tape my favorite shows.

See you next time
bye for now

I never got into the show. I did work at an ultimate geek shop for a time, Intergalactic Sci-Fi World, and there was lots of Doctor Who paraphernalia available. The show most definitely has a huge underground following.
I guess I'd have bought the tapes too, just to check them out at least.

I once found two vintage Dr. Who games at the SA, one the Role Playing game, which is a dungeons & dragons type of game (talk about geeky!) the other was The Game of Time and Space, which is a regular board game.  They were both in mint condition for 1.99.

I used to watch Dr. Who as a elementary school kid in the pre-cable years when it was on PBS after school.  I don't remember too much about it, except of course time traveling in the telephone booth.

Many years ago I found a Dr. Who LP -record in a thrift.  Wonder where in the closets it is now?

Anyway, by the time I found it -- it was the CD age so I have never played it.

Only reason I bought it was because on the face of the LP ( not just the cover-sleeve) was a picture with several of the actors who portrayed Dr. Who in the series.

I used to watch Dr. Who on PBS too... Smiley

That was Bill S. Preston, Esq. and Ted Theodore Logan who traveled in a phone booth.

The Doctor preferred a Police Call Box.  Always has, probably always will.

Off topic, but did you hear they're planning a remake of Bill & Ted?

My husband loves Doctor Who, and he totally got me into the new series of it even though I'm usually not a big SciFi fan. Some of the really old series episodes with the original Doctor are on DVD now and we checked those out from the library a while ago. Fun to see how different it was (lots of imagination required with those special effects, but that's part of the fun).

AAACCCKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so envious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE Dr. Who.  I love the old series and I love the new series.  For a while I could find  the series on Video at Media Play, but now they are out of business and I haven't found any bricks and mortar store that sell them around here.  Maybe online.  Haven't really looked tho.
There used to be a small bookstore near me that sold the books from the original series but I bought out all they had.  I found a book about the series in the remainered bin at Media Play once, paid about $3 for it, covers the 70's and the Tom Baker years.
I even found once a cd from a radio recording  he did once.  That's about it.  Slim pickins for Dr. Who around here mostly.
I like the new series and have gotten my kids into it, as well as Torchwood and the Sarah Jane Adventures.  Plus our local PBS station still runs the original series at midnight on Saturday.
On the birght side, maybe the new shows will generate some finds in thrift stores soon.  That would be nice.

Got a couple of vintage Dr. Who novels at Half Price Books recently, and would totally have snapped up the videos you found. (I'd had to Netflix the Tom Baker Dr. Who episodes to see them-- have been all into the new Dr. Who and wanted to know more about its history.)

Very nice find!

I'm not plugging them (we're all about THRIFT here), but Barnes and Noble online have plenty of Doctor Who DVDs:

http://video.barnesandnoble.com/search/results.asp?quickSearchType=TTL&FRM=0&quickSearchText=Doctor+Who

My daughter bought the "season 2" (David Tennant and Billie Piper) set, and she loves the new stuff.  I think she really loves David Tennant.

I like Doctor Who - I've watched three of the four (Terror of the Zygons is still sealed) and they're pretty campy.  The acting is as over the top as the special effects are below today's standards...

... and I love them.

The new stuff is brilliant, as is Torchwood and SJA.

The special effects of BBC productions in that era were below the standards of their own era!  Its the complete campiness that makes these programs endearing.  just like all Sci Fi fans indulge in the sinful pleasure of Star Trek TOS from time to time.  The sets were cheap, the scripts were 100% predictable, and the (over)acting was so bad it was good.

Yeah, I kinda love David Tennant, too. But the early Dr. Who had Douglas Adams writing for it... which is pretty cool in and of itself.

We gave my daughter season 2 and
3 of Dr. Who for Christmas.  Season 1 was my birthday gift to myself.
We don't get the cable chanel that carries Torchwood so when it was out on video we got that too.  Love that too.
We got the first episode of SJA last week and are awaiting tonight when we get the new season of Doctor Who.
My daughter has 2 or 3 friends who share her addiciton to DW.  The last two weeks someone has been sending her e-mail and leaving notes on her car that read Bad Wolf.  Her explanation is that David Tennant is stalking her.  In her dreams perhaps.
I had to promise that if the good Dr. ever showed up with his Tardis and wanted to take her time traveling thru the universe I wouldn't
stand in her way.  I started to wonder if I had fallen thru the looking glass.  But I promised.

The early DR Who also had Tom Baker, my still favorite doctor.  Off the wall, overacting, corny sets, corny costumes.  It was so great.  I thikn David Tennant is channeling his Inner Tom Baker.  He is my second favoirte doctor.

My Daughter is the same way with "Bad Wolf."  She's 15, and wants to get a red hardtop Jeep Wrangler.  Her nickname is "apple" so she's going to letter that onto the sidewall of the engine cowl on the hood (where you usually see "Laredo", "Renegade" or something like that).  She is going to get a custom license plate: BADWOLF.  The plate frame will say: "My other Car is a TARDIS."

She's a little bummed, because tonight (new SJA and new DW Voyage of the Damned on SciFi) she has to babysit.  I'll be watching and taping.  Then tomorrow, on BBC America, we finish out season 3 with "Last of the Time Lords."

Don't you just love kids?

Tom Baker is also my favorite Dr.  Its hard to say who my favorite Who Girl is though...  In the 60's and 70's they were all hot in those miniskirts & Go-Go boots, but I also have a soft spot for Rose, and Martha Jones is kinda hot too.
