I finally found a few real vintage Barbies at the Sal Army today. I was down in Amherst, a college town 1/2 hour from where I live, and stopped in at the Sally for the heck of it. The prices at that one are higher than in my area, so I normally don't find much. Their collectibles are usually pretty high but I spotted a vintage Francie doll case with a few dolls, outfits, etc. I asked how much and the guy said 29.99. He said he had no idea how much they go for online, he can't be bothered to check before he prices stuff (refreshing!). Anyhow after looking at the lot which includes a first issue 1965 Francie with two dresses, a nightie, handbag, pants, her case, two hangers and two shoes (too bad they don't match), I decided it was worth taking a chance on. Also in the case is a 1967 Twist & Turn Barbie with dress, jacket, handbag & one shoe. Everything is in good condition too with just a little cleaning needed.
I looked online when I got home and a naked first issue Francie just sold for $55.00, and I think the Barbie is actually worth more, so $30.00 for the lot was pretty good.
I went over to check out the new Goodwill in Amherst, but it was closed so I am still curious about that one.
At my local Sally I got a 1970's Cameo baby doll with original outfit & blanket (needs cleaning) for 1.49 and a Merry Mushroon kitchen clock for 99 cents, so pretty good thrift day overall!
