I'm not sure.  IMDB still lists him as among the living...

Ron Popeil is a TV marketing GOD!  I need a Veg-O-Matic, a pocket fisherman, some paint for the bald spot I may someday get, and a ShowTime Rotisserie.  The ShowTime Rotisserie is one of my favorite appliances.  It always cooks perfectly.  I have never been disapointed, Plus we got it for $5 at a yard sale still new in the box.

-Jay

Do you think that Ronco guy ripped this off to "invent" all his stuff??

LOL!!!!! You made me choke on my Dove Bite!

PS:  Didn't he just go to the great TV marketing infomercial in the sky?

Very nice Jay!!!I absolutely LOVE,LOVE your orange pyrex and yet,the poker playing dog ashtray is the bees knees. The tomato slicer could be used to slice eggs, couldn't it?Or would the eggs bend the blades?

I'm thinking that the blades would smoosh and tear eggs.  An actual egg slicer uses fine wire, and supports the egg from underneath to prevent smooshing.  The tomato slicer has a fine serrated blade which I think will smoosh & tear the eggs.

So THAT is what that is!  (A tomato slicer!)  It's nice to know!   Grin

And I want to get in line for the orange refrigerator containers!!  I just recently found a white one (not Pyrex) with a clear lid.  Same size as those, but it says it's a yogurt maker.

My mom had some of those...  THey came with the Salton yogurt maker in the 70's & 80's.

I have often seen those ShowTime Rotisseries in thrift stores and thought they were neat, but managed to talk myself out of buying one with the argument that I really didn't need another appliance.  But now I do!  I want one!  I Need one! Thanks Jay! (I think)  Cheesy

Mom never got the knack of setting a rib roast in there, so whenever I go to mom & dad's for the holidays and mom's got a prime rib to cook she always tells me to cook it.  It always comes out perfect.  I honestly don't think I can make a prime rib in a regular oven.  I was tempted last week I saw the "compact" showtime rotisserie in a thrift, but alas, I knew that I already had the big one, and I didn't need two.

Just a quick bit of information for everyone on these...  There were a few models made.  The regular model, the "compact" model, and the platinum model.  The compact is just a smaller version of the regular model.  The regular model is white, has a mechanical timer, and came with all sorts of accessories.  The platinum model was a silver grey color, and had a digital timer.  The platinum model did not come with all of the "But wait, there's more" goodies that he threw in with the regular model.  Both models came with the "Flavor injector", heat resistant gloves, elastic food ties, self turning spit rods, and the large basket.  The most notable accessories that were missing with the platinum model was the vegetable warming tray for the top, and the extra large basket.  Those could have been ordered at an additional expense.

The white standard model was sold on the infomercial.  If you called Ron Popeil's 800 number, that's the model you got.  The platinum model was sold in department stores.

I have the white model, mom & dad have the platinum model.  Personally I like the digital timer of the platinum model better, but both cook just as well.  It really is "Set it & forget it"  If you follow the recipe book for cooking times its always done right on time.

Ya know, Jay, you should consider making a Showtime Rotisserie/Hot Dogger hybrid.  Cook the meat from the inside and the outside simultaneously!

I'm a huge fan of Arrested Development (the tv show, not the hip-hop group--though I have nothing against them).  One of my favorite details of the show was the Ronco-esque "Cornballer" for making deep-fried corn bread.  The clips of the infomercial with George Sr. and Richard Simmons overdubbed in Spanish were hilarious.  I wish I had me some cornballs right now!

I don't know, a Ronco/Presto hybrid sounds dangerous.

Went shopping today, wasn't coming up with much but then I scored in the Winchester, VA  SA...  They had lots of vintage school chairs for $3/ea.  I went through and sorted out the best of the fiberglass chairs and made a set of 8.  4 greyish tan and 4 orangeish red.

Yeah, I know...  Pics.  I'll post a pic as soon as I get a chance.
