Cute!  How great to have garage sales on a Thursday, doesn't happen very often around here.

I found these super-cute shoes, like new, at a garage sale for $2. I had never heard of the brand Frye, but they looked and felt like they might be a good brand. When I got home, I looked them up and it turns out Frye is an expensive brand! They sell for $100 and up! I couldn't find the exact pair online, but this was close:

Lucky day!

I found this guy in a free box. Not sure what to do with him, but he was just too creep-tastic to leave behind. I'll probably end up throwing him away, just because he keeps crumbling. But I'll see what I can salvage.

I got a pair of shoes almost identical to those not long ago at a garage sale too, not frye, but that brand has been around forever, they are well known for their boots.

That head would be great for Halloween decorating if it doesn't fall apart first!

Ok, so last week at Savers, I brought home a cute little saucer dish for a quarter, and I just love the pattern. This week I saw plates to match at Goodwill, but the pattern was pretty faded, so I passed them up. Today, I found the whole freaking set at a garage sale!!! It was marked $15 and I offered her $10 and the deal was sealed. I just love the dainty little flower pattern, and the fabulous blue color of the cups. Most are in pretty good shape, a few nicks here and there, and the dinner plates kinda scratched more than the rest.

That's a popular pattern I can't remember the maker & pattern name, what are the dishes marked?  I see pieces of that pattern from time to time, but a whole set for 10 bucks is pretty sweet, they look like they are in really nice condition too.  I would have had a hard time passing those up, way to haggle too!

Thanks guys! The dishes are marked Salem. Actually, some of them are not marked at all. But they also have a number and letter, mostly 62 Z, but the letter is different on some of them too. Not sure what that means.

Hi, I am new to this site and new to thrifting. I need all of the help that I can get to find great things as my husband who  is the soul support of our  homeschool family lost his job on Dec 30, 2008.
Where are good places to shop for thrift bargains?  How do you determine if something is a good bargain? What is Savers and where is it located?
I would appreciate any help to get started in thrifting that you can give me. Thank you and God Bless!

Wow, I guess I did get a deal. The dishes on the ebay listing are a little different than mine, but the same. Weird.

The teacups/sugar bowl in your set kinda look like the ones that go with Royal China's Blue Heaven pattern or Mikasa made ones like that too I think.  That kind of makes sense since I just noticed that the creamer is different than the sugar.  In alot of these sets only the dinner plates or certain pieces are marked so who knows.  If it is a mixed set all the better, in my opinion, I like mix & match sets.

Man, I am finding some cool stuff lately. I was thrilled today when I found these Kliban Cat salt and pepper shakers for 50 cents at an estate sale. Years ago, I bought my mom a coin bank that was an exact match to this set, but larger of course. She still has it, but I think it's been broken and glued back together. I know she'll be jealous of my find, but if I can bear to part with them, they might make a good Christmas gift.  Smiley

Aren't they adorable?!

I've never seen those before, nice catch.  I love Kliban cats but the stuff I see is usually pretty worn.  When my sister & I were kids my aunt gave us Kliban Cat bedding so I always have a nostalgia for those items.  The few nice Kliban things I have found were a coffee mug at the SA & a wastebasket at a yard sale both for 50 cents too.
