Hello, Friends:

My thrifting has slowed down considerably over the year, because I have been reconsidering (in part thanks to all of you here on this board) my place in thrifting universe.  Over my past year of participation on this board, I have come to see things so very differently. Someday, I'll share all that philosophical stuff (I bet y'all can't wait Grin Grin) but for now: On with the finds!!

I found this INCREDIBLE Ingber handbag as I was exiting a local thrift, which had oodles of great vintage clothes, all of them appropriate for NYC in mid-January during a freeze as opposed to a mild (even for Florida!) winter. I gasped aloud when the store manager brought it to my attention--she had it hanging way up above the register where I never look because it's too high up.  To learn more about Ingber handbags, go here:

The week before, my husband and I were out of  our normal thrift territory when we spotted this Sears "Danish Modern" (no, really, ask Scott!--and yes, it does have the original upholstery) chair buried in the back of a huge Value Thrift. To find anything mid-century modern in a thrift in this area is akin to finding the Holy Grail in Yonkers during subway rush hour, so you can imagine my glee. Of course, I had to have it. And for 19.99, it's mine. The thrift store owner compliemented on my taste. He said:  "I was watching you shop, and everything you picked up is quality. You have an excellent eye." I was very touched! Here are the photos:

Check out the lining of this handbag:

It is sooooooooooooooo totally oo-la-la. It cost me $15, which is wayyyy out of my thrift radar price range, BUT--I will most likely never find one like this again. So it came home with me. When I told my soon-to-be 80-year-old mother about it, she actually remembered the brand being sold at places likes Saks and Gimbels. I feel like a own a piece of American design and manufacturing history. It even has the little feet on the bottom. Whenever I look at it, I think of Grace Kelly walking through the lobby in Paris in "To Catch a Thief".

(Good Buddy, about this chair: It seems to me that we saw one just like at Renniger's and you said: "O, I have a chair just like this that I got at a garage sale", except the one at Renniger's was selling for $135 or $235, I can't remember which. But even if you don't have this chair, I do remember seeing it at Renniger's for an extremely high price because, as the lady at the booth told me:  "It's mid-century modern and it's very collectible". )

This next one was also a stumble-upon: Visiting a local thrift about to close for the day, found two of these pendant lamps. One I hung in my dining room (see photo) and the other I plan to hang in my library. They were $5 bucks each and the thrift volunteer told me he had just put them out and he "priced 'em to sell."

It's tres sexy lit! Can't you just hear the ice tinkling in the glasses while "Persuasive Percussion" plays in the background?

(The partially obscured painting is from another thrift; I got it last autumn for $10, but that's another post Wink)

If you've gotten this far, thank you! Isn't this stuff just fabulous? and functional, too!

Ciao, Bellas!

Wow, you found some great stuff.  Love all of it.  Are you going to recover the chair or leave as is?

Excellent bag! It was worth the $15 easy. Very stylish. Get out your Edith Head gown, twirl around Jimmy Stewart a bit and head off to "The 21 Club." Smiley

The pendant lamp is very much like ones my dad has in yellow in his current house in the Keys. It was done in the 60s. I believe he also has your chair, but in an avocado green upholstery. That chair I believe was found at the side of the road by my Grandfather. (Yes, I come from a long line of scroungers...) Smiley

Glad you hit it so big, SeSo.

Love the lamps!  They would look awesome with my ceramic ashtray wall.  I'm going out later before I go to work, maybe I'll be as lucky as you and get some good deals.   Grin

That's some great stuff.  The chair and the lamps are fabulous, but the purse doesn't really do it for me.  I can appreciate the finds.  I'd even buy those lamps, and I have no place to put them.  I passed on a couple of chairs like that a few months ago, because the upholstery on the cushions was pretty much shot, and getting new covers would have killed the frugal aspect of the buy.  Add to that the fact that I had no place to put them...

Anyway, Keep up the good work.

See you next time
bye for now.

seso you found some awesome things! Loved the handbag! I would have went out of my comfort zone and purchased it also, its so Bloomingdales/rich girl chic! Loved the lamp also, I bet it does look nice when its lit and you and hubby are perched underneath it with martinis and a olive , gazing into each others eye, of course you would have the handbag in your hand and be sitting on the chair as hubby is on bended knee professing his undying love to you! Good going!

I want to know more about that painting, SeSo. From the little bit I can see, it has a Bernard Buffet kind of feel to it. Now that would be a great find!

And its funny you mention Persuasive Percussion. Many of those old Enoch Light record covers were designed by Bauhaus master Josef Albers (including Persuasive Percussion, in fact). I buy 'em whenever I see 'em just for that fact.

Scott, I knew that about the albums, but do you know how I know?  From your site!

My husband and I were finding tons of those records at library sales  years ago. When I saw that the art work was by Josef Albers, I almost fainted. So I picked up a few.DH got me a mint one for my BD las year for a quarter as well. So, thanks to you, I know this Smiley Smiley

As for the pic, I thrilled that you think it's interesting. I LOVE it. It's the first thing you see when you come into my home...hangs over the fireplace in the dining room. It was ten bucks at a thrift last summer. I'll post a pic and share. It does so have that mid-century vibe and adds such flow to my house.   Will post pic later.

Ciao,
