I wish I had the space and money for this beauty I spotted today at the Salami store. It''s on my top 10 list of coolest things EVER found at a thrift store:

Looks to me like an honest-to-goodness tiki bar! How can you not love the leopardskin trim? All it would''ve taken was $149 to get this sukka home.

I did get some nice consolation prizes at the Goodwill down the street, though: ''couple Doc Severinsen & The Tonight Show Band records, an NBC cap, and the deal of the day...the 1st season of Magnum PI on DVD for $4.99. So not a bad day after all.

Higgins, pass me a few more of those Mauna Loa Macadamia nuts, will ya?

Ya know, there have been many times I''ve seen really tempting larger furniture at thrift stores, and the roadblocks are available space and, "How can I get this back home?"

On two occasions I''ve squeezed carved French 50s armchairs into my Saturn SOMEHOW just because I couldn''t pass them up.

Glad you had some consolation prizes. And I hope the Tiki bar will eventually go to a good home.

On a couple of occasions I''ve surprised myself with the furniture items I''ve been able to fit into my 2-door Honda Civic! I think the most impressive feat was the Russel Wright American Modern bedroom desk I was able to wiggle into the front seat, but only with the seat fully reclined and the desk taking up about 35% of the drivers seat as well. Sure it wasn''t safe driving home and I''m lucky I bought an automatic transmission (I couldn''''t reach the shifter in the position I needed to drive in), but I just couldn''t bear leaving the desk for someone else!

Scott, I totally hear ya-- thank goodness for automatic! :-)

(Why am I now having visions of explaining to a severe-faced state trooper: "But it was antique furniture, officer! I couldn''t leave it there!")

We once went to Miami to thrift in the sedan without the trailer hitch. We left the station wagon with the trailer hitch at home. Bad move. We couldn''t have bought the bedroom and dining room set we saw.
Lesson learned!

Oh, ouch! A bedroom set and a dining set, Good Buddy?!?! I do admit that although I really quite like having a smallish car, having to pass up that Heywood Wakefield bed for $2.99 for lack of transportation kind of made me rethink my thrifting transportation. A station wagon would be great! (So would a Tiki Bar!)

Fab! That's really a great-looking setup, Monimania!

My Fiancée and I are planning a Tiki area of some sort for our next house. We just need to move so we have the extra room to start buying all the cool Tiki stuff. I just love that 1940's rattan furniture!

Monimania, I absolutely love your Tiki Bar corner. It looks authentic, like back in the days of Frank an Dean!  The furniture is so fabulous...do you know if it is Heywood Wakefield?  It sure looks like it could be! Great painting! Did you get this stuff all at once, or over a period of time?  C'mon, share your experience, inquiring minds want to know Grin
