I love vintage ornaments and am always watching for ShinyBrites.  But my very BEST vintage ornament purchase was last year in the Salvation Army store.  Right on the top shelf in the original box was a set of 5 clip on birds with the long tails.  You won't believe the price - .95 !  Calmly, but with haste I snatched them up.  Same trip I found a decorative grapevine that had birdhouses and bows on it and now I can display them all year.  Those little birds are probably a once in a lifetime find, but doesn't stop me from looking  Grin

And here's some of the ShinyBrites I've found.

So cheery-- it's like an Aladdin's cave of treasure, that wonderful pile of ornaments!

I have a few similar to what you have, that are shaped like a child's top. They were in my family for years. They're some of the first things that go on my tree each year.

I would like to leave them out all year so I've been watching for just the right large glass container that I can display them in.  Actually I didn't realize it until my husband noticed, but the ShinyBrite ornaments have that stamped into the top of the silver hanger that goes onto the ornament.

I LOVE these birds!  I recognize a number of ornaments that hung on our tree when I was a child in your shinybrite group there - I have some, but because they were stored in dad's attic, a lot of them were damaged, discolored or chipped.   Need to hunt out more....would look great on a fiber optic tree!

Great looking ornaments that you found.  I remember many of those too.  I love the birds and your use in your garland.  You can use them all year, great idea.

At the Salvation Army I just found today a whole bag of gold and white vintage ornaments in spheres and bell-shapes. I know my family had some similar bells (I still have a few) from aeons ago, but in different colors than the gold. I was so excited!

A whole bag for about $1.50! Yay!

Nice score, TSR!  And just in time for the season. They sound very opulent and I bet they will work so beautifully in your holiday designs.

Ciao, Bella!

Those little birds were some of my faves as a child. We were threatened within an inch of our lives lest we goof off and break one!! My daughter and I also collect Christmas. She likes to refer to her collection as "cheesy Christmas", which as apt! The heart of her collection is a little cardboard mica covered village.

The move you described in picking up those birds is familiar!! Try to stay calm to not let anyone know that you are about to score a major deal, but quickly so no one else sneaks in there in front of you!! Yep, know that feeling!!! :~)

Good job!

I would like to hang them on the tree this year but am leary.  Last year out of probably 50 some ornaments I ended up with 10 left after the tree was knocked over again and again by the lab puppy.  She is a ball nut and I'm sure was very happy I hung all those tennis ball type things on the tree for her to play with.  We ended up buying unbreakable new ones.

Heya, SeSo-- Will do. I've gotten quite a few vintage or vintage-look ornaments lately at the thrifts, so maybe I'll write something up related to early Christmas and take some pics.

Hopefully some of our resident vintage ornament officianados might be able to tell something about them.  Grin
