Last week my mother mentioned my uncle wanted a second walker so he could have one at his house & one at my grandmother's house.

This weekend I found a like new condition foldable walker with wheels --- $5.99 at the local GW.

Woohoo!  Similar item priced at CVS drug store chain -- $70

& according to the price ticket, it had been put out on the selling floor 2 days earlier. Grin

Two years ago my Mom broke some bones in her foot and needed to have a cast put on.  After a couple of weeks when she was ready to start walking, it became obvious that crutches were not going to work for her.  I picked up a like new folding walker at a local Goodwill for 3$ and she loved it.  The following weekend, my brother and I 'pimped' it up for her.  We painted it, added fuzzy dice, handle bar mirrors and a big chrome horn.  It was a lot of fun.

Reminds me of my aunt.  Several years ago she fell and injured her knee and needed a cane to help her get around.  All she could find were some basic brown wooden ones and she wouldn't use it because it wasn't "pretty."  So I took it to my sewing room and proceeded to "decorate" it.  I wrapped it in pink floral ribbon, glued a pink, feathery flower under the handle, and tied a bow at the bottom, just above the rubber tip.  She loved it and said it looked like it had gift wrapped.  Used it till she didn't need it anymore, then put it on display in her LR. Funny, funny.  Jeannie

It's funny what will get people to use the equipment they need.  Could be new line of work in that as the population ages.  I once got another aunt to use some special pillows she needed for her back by making some pillow cases out of a fabric that matched her bedroom decor.
I used to work in a fabric store and can't tell you how many cast covers, crutch covers, oxygen bottle covers etc I helped customers design for family members.  Funny how a little sprucing up can make such a difference.

LOL, I can remember when my great aunt lived with my family before she died.  If she thought she wasn't getting her due attention she would tromp through the foyer banging the walker on the hardwood floor.  My sister who worked in a nursing home at the time fixed that right quick with the tennis ball mod.  I can remember at times she'd wake everyone in the house at 3am with that walker.  It was much quieter with the tennis balls.
