can't wait to get out and thrift!

« on: January 15, 2009, 10:08:28 AM »

i'm proud of myself.. saw a beautiful magnalite 12" saucepan yesterday for $10. perfect condition. a year ago, i would have snagged that puppy in a new york second. i passed it by. i don't really need it: it goes with my "quality not quantity" resolution for the year (though, it was quality!). if anybody needs it, it's in california waiting for you Wink

Figures the things you need are always a million states away.  I've been looking for a frying pan but they are always so, well, used that I'm to the point going to spend $$ for a new one.

I like your resolution.  I've brought home too much stuff and have been trying to clean out the clutter now.  I never seem to have any cash in my pocket and doing so is a plus if I find only 1 or 2 little things as I don't want to write a check for just a few dollars.

Wow I am glad to find others who are trying to cut down on the clutter! Good for you , its hard to do. I will keep that in mind 'Quality not Quantity' Right now I am doing a 'No Buy' January and trying to do some purging. It's very hard not to slip into a thrift store, it's been 15 days (and counting!).

..i can still slip into the thrifts, it's just about slipping while i'm in there that i am paying attention to.

i still enjoy my thrifting fix! i love to see what others have gathered, and given over. i still find wonderful things.. just not so much of them. and, truth be told, i've got too many pans now. i finally can admit this - i always reach for my good 'ole cast iron skillet!

really, isn't most of the economic mess the country is in related to "want" rather than "need"Huh

I still stop into my Catholic thrift after a client I'd say at least 3 times a month, which for me is excellent because I used to go 2-3 times a week. Now when I go in Iam much more selective and it has to really hit me in order to buy, but Iam a sucker for good quality used clothes which my thrift carries alot of so I still stuggle with that and also houseware items, but Iam getting better! Yesterday I stopped in the Catholic thrift and they had this amazing silver icon of the Mother Mary holding baby Jesus and it was all in silver but I think Mary was some kind of coloring and Jesus. But anyhow I know this particular item went for big bucks because my cousin Carol has these icons all around her house that she had collected from Tarpon Springs, Florida which is a Greek Orthodox area and I know she has paid the price for them. Anyhow the thrift had this one priced $15.00 and I have wanted one after seeing them at Carols for so long. Well I walked out of there not purchasing it. And (this is where the sickness comes in....lol! Wink you know I went to work today and thought about it all day, finally I couldnt stand it no longer, I called Rcik the manager whom I know and am friends with and I asked him if it was still there and he said yes which is amazing seeings as it was behind the main counter where the register is, I asked him if he couldnt put it aside for me and he said o.k. I told him I couldnt get it till next week some time because thats when I would be in that part of town again and he said alright. So now you-all know I have it pretty bad...lol! Shocked
