i spot two mid-century chairs, looked fairly decent from my initial drive by, but it was dark so i turned around to take another look...

long story short they are Thonet... model no. 16 from the label underneath... but i can't find ANY info on that model...

the frames are pretty solid... the seats and backs could stand to be redone... which i'm actually eagerly looking to take on as a project....

can anyone offer any insight on these chairs, or perhaps advice on getting them fixed up?

OH! AND there also was a fairly big box with stuff in it...

i forgot to mention i found this at night so it was nearly impossible to examine the contents (i was almost a little scared to open it), but when i did i noticed that the entire contents were wrapped in newspaper...glassware and such... so i only unwrap ONE glass and assess whether or not to just put the whole box in my van and examine the entire contents with appropriate lighting... and that glass was a Trivial Pursuit glass with a question card printed on it... there was a set! needless to say i grabbed the whole box... i can't wait to go through it tonight...

Sidewalk finds are the best!  You should post pictures of the chairs when you get a chance.  A couple who lives in the house behind me recently had a baby.  The woman is a big trash to treasure decorator.  When they were making room for the baby they went through stuff they really did not have room for & left many boxes of freebies out on the sidewalk.  It was alot of fun to poke through them.  I restrained myself from taking too much but got a few neat things including a vintage railroad latern, an old wood & glass washboard & a nice vase.  Nothing super valuable but it definitely the thrill of the find!
