I found The Cure's Seventeen Seconds CD in a thrift shop today. I'm glad to have found it, but was bummed that there were no other CDs of that genre music..

I was hoping for some more British pop ala Siouxsie, or Echo and the Bunnymen..

I did buy The Church Starfish though.

I guess I'll be re-buying all the records, tapes and CDs that I've lost broken or sold..

I also purchased this Star Trek record for $5. I had it when I was 8 years old when we lived in Naples Italy. I listened to story records like, Superman, Batman and The Justice League. There was no US television overseas at that time in 1974 and I played those babies a million times.

Finding Echo or Siouxsie on vinyl is like trying to find Frank Zappa records or Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd (not in totally trashed condition) albums.  Collectors/fans have them, and they are NOT donating them.

I can count on two fingers of one hand how many truly classic albums I've found at thrift stores:

- Meet The Beatles (mono pressing)
- Led Zeppelin IV

The rest has been stuff that is way more common, more obscure, or just stuff that I like.

If you had put The Church - Starfish on your wish list, it would have already been on its way to you.  Have it, don't listen to it.

GB, Please do the wish list.

Brother my wish list is the wish list of the guy that ran a night club, and worked at the Indy record store in town. It's so huge and would go on forever.

But, if you have and English Beat or any of that immediate family, I'd love copies to listen to..

..and BDA, you seem like the kind of guy that might have some Special AKA or the Jam..

I think I have all The English Beat on vinyl, but very little on CD.  I have Fun Boy 3 and a bunch of Madness as well (vinyl).  I have English Beat's hits album (What is Beat?) on CD which I could get for you.  Surprisingly, no Jam or Special AKA.

I had all The Beat on tape... I only have What is Beat now. I schooled my neighbor kid yesterday. He said, "They sound like Sublime.". I said the opposite and when I told him that Mirror in the Bathroom was recorded 12 years before Sublime started recording he started to get even more interested. I'll dupe it for him..

It's all great stuff..

I live in Coventry, home of The Specials and 2Tone, and you are more likely to bump into band members than you are to find any of their vinyl in playable condition! You're not too likely to find much other indie vinyl about for a reasonable price either, but I still check every pile I come across just in case. And the thing is, other than a few real rarities it's not like any of it is worth very much money. Just that the kind of people to have purchased it are the kind of people who are likely to hold onto it.

A friend has a huge pile of abandoned vinyl in his loft (attic?!) left by the old owners. Every now and then he'll suggest that I sort and sell it for him, but it hasn't happened yet. One of these days I will get my grubby mitts on them, I will let you know if there is any of the stuff you've mentioned.

I think you should sort it and sell it for him, with the proviso that you get the top 20-30 picks in the stash or a cut on the profits.  Moving vinyl out of an attic (loft?) and then sorting, grading, and selling the albums is hard work, and it's not something that should be taken lightly when we're talking about a "huge pile of abandoned vinyl."  My feeling is that you should at least get a chance to look through it before you decide to help the geezer.
