Our local ladies club has a twice a year attic sale to raise money for their programs. Today was their spring sale.
I walked in and found this amazing horse and wagon and fell in love.  It is about 14-15" high.  The wagon is bright yellow and reds with bright scenery painted on it.  The horse is papier mache I think, not wood and very light wight.  But he is decorated to the nines.  His mane and tail are real fur, and he had a feather umbrella and feathers in his hair and his bridle is all decorated with fringe and appliques.  He is very dusty and has a minor crack on his underbelly.  But he is so colorful and gorgeous that he came home to live with me.  Some of the scenes are labeled Ruggero Entra A Palermo, which Google  translated as Ruggero Enters Palermo.  Ruggero it seems was an Italian leader who back in the 11 or 1200s drove invaders out of the city of Palermo and reclaimed it for Italy.
It is quite dusty and my guess is that someone brought it as a souvinier from a trip to Italy some years ago. He was $15, more than I would usually spend on something but while looking thru some rings marked costume jewelry I found a 14 K gold ring.  I paid $5 for it and I figure I can sell it for the gold and make enough to pay for the horse and wagon.  All in all, good treasure hunting today.  And to top it off I found a nice unused linen souvinier towel today at GW for $1.

Jeannie, I am always impressed with your goodies. You have a real knack for turning up you need when you need it as well as finding extravagant luxuries for pennies on the dollar. So happy about the ring that will help you pay for it all...perfect day for you!

Excellent-- there are just so many great, unusual things out there and it's nice to see them find their right new homes.

I was at a neighborhood yard sale on Saturday and there were SO many things that were excellent-- maybe not for me, but certainly SOMEONE would be delighted to have them. Gallons of unopened paint, for instance. Or a bedroom set that needed a little love.

I always find myself wishing good second lives for these items.

Yes, Yes, and Yes, TSR. I  will say that thrifting in my area has definitely picked up. I see entire families in there a lot more than usual and people who appear to have never been in a thrift, are new to thrifting. I have seen such great stuff, not for me, but for somebody. It's what I also hope for my stuff when I donate it...that it finds the right home.
