Oh Yeah!

« on: March 25, 2009, 09:27:40 PM »

Pat Buttrum was my mother's cousin. Pat was Gene Autry's sidekick. Mr. Haney on Green Acres and so many Disney characters . . . who can count. He did the Grand Ole' Opry  and heaven knows what else.

I was prowling in a clothes rack when I heard a woman start talking about Mr. Haney and trying to tell her companion who he was. I looked up and they were looking at an album.

It is a promotional item and has to be the rarest of rare. It's in good condition. I don't have a turntable. I would love to have it recorded to mp3. I'm going to frame it and hang it on the wall.

My other main surname is LYNCH and there are so many of those buggers I'd have to buy a bigger house if I had all the collectibles. This is the only, "Buttrum" collectible I've even heard of. Wahoo!

Cool find.  I'm not related to anyone famous, so no family memorablia to look for.  My BIL however is a very remote offshoot of a famous wine making family in France.  It's fun to look for stuff for my sister and him.  I did however find anLP that my other BIL recored back in the early 70s with a local group.  It was about $.25 I think.  His daughter works for a record company so I gave it to her. She hung it in her office.  Now she has her own Rock God family member to talk about.  Even if no one had ever heard of him.

Did they put it down or did you talk them out of it?

Alas they were not as fascinated as I. I did tell my brother the vinyl collector. He still has several turntables so we'll make a date to hear old Pat lay it on. Since it's a promotional piece I'm wondering if he'll use his 'real' voice (few ever heard) or his stage voice, the one we all know and love. (?) Bro just lives across the river in PDX.

Oh, I loved Mr. Haney!  How cool to be related to him!

My surname is common in England and there's an Oscar-winning film producer, an actress and a former rock star (pretty much unknown in the US) who share my last name, so maybe I'm related to them.  But probably not.   Undecided

You won't know unless you try. Genealogy is a lot today with the internet and the huge interest. According to the Mormons we all go back to Adam and Eve and they can prove it . . . they do have a large genealogical collection. Warning genealogy can be as addictive as thrifting!

Oooh, I know...I've traced one of my lines back to 1809.  I haven't crossed the pond, though, so I don't know who I'm related to over in England.  There are enough tangled threads here in the U.S.!

I have a first cousin "Share Pederson" who was in an all-girl heavy metal hair band in the 80's called Vixen. I've never found any of her albums though, although my brother had a signed poster from her. I don't know her at all though. My mom was her mom's sister & they were all musical. It would be cool to find an old album of hers.
One side of my family actually has a large book with all of us in it & we all have a number, plus there's a quarterly newsletter for all the "cousins". It goes back to the 1600's when a guy came over to the "new world" from England. Kind of cool that someone has done so much work for our family.

I remember Vixen...  As a teenager I remember thinking those chicks were hot, but now looking back when I watch the videos now I think they look trashy.  Its interesting how our views can change like that.

That's not too surprising as many of the 80's styles were pretty trashy, especially those of heavy metal hair bands.  I think many people thought they were ridiculous- even in the 80's!
