Found one half of the "Balloons" chip & dip set today, the large chip bowl.  Near mint condition for 2 bucks.

http://www.pyrexlove.com/balloons-1958-cinderella-chip-dip-set-series-395/glassware/

There was also a mint condition yellow gooseberry 4 qt bowl, but i didn't like the yellow & black color scheme so I left it. I hope I find the dip bowl someday!

Thanks! I was psyched to find it, I think I saw this pattern mentioned on this forum a while back, but I forgot it was a chip & dip set.  I would love to find a wire caddy to mount a dip bowl to the chip bowl, but I looked on Ebay to see if a lone wire caddy was for sale and there were none, doubtful I will come across one.  The sets are really cool with all three pieces- the square turquoise set seems to be the hottest seller:

Here's what the balloon set looks like with all the pieces

I just realized after I copied and pasted this link for the picture that this Etsy seller lives in the same town as me- weird!

You always find the coolest things , esp when it comes to pyrex. i want a that set.  lucky u. i found a piece of pyrex , a divided dish. the barbed wire pattern its white with black scrolls and small stars. checked it out prexlove.com and it was a promotional item from 1959. im not sure thats the actual name i saw a link to ebay and found the same piece. anyway i bought it bc it goes great with my red gray and black formica table. the table has red starburts. so i set it in the middle. also i got a aqua mccoy planter for a 1.99 and 11 red wing mugs in the bob white pattern for 10 cents each. so things are getting better . good luck hunting

Your table sounds really cool, I only saw one formica table & chair set I was interested in at a thrift and it was already sold.  I love art pottery too, any good pieces are pretty scarce around here, great mug pattern, 10 cents, wow!

Dont u hate when u see something u like and its already sold? i still think about that drexel mid century coffee and end table set at the salvation army. lol  i got lucky on the red wing mugs they were misplaced in the mug bin. i searched  to see if i could find any plates or bowls but didnt see any. i  love art pottery too. u r right its scarce. im going to charleston sc this weekend. the thrifts are pretty good there, esp when it comes to vintage items. so i hope i get lucky down there.  i love my table and i really like the fact that the chairs match the print of the table. plus it has 6 chairs inculding 1  captains chair.  but the best part was it was a steal for 80 bucks.

I was in a local thrift store today and saw several piece of pyrex and was temped to get them for selling on ebay but I have no idea if it's the type that would resell good? Is there some kind of mark or markings on the pyrex that goes better than others? The pieces I saw today looked kinda "plain jane" to me?

With Pyrex, the pattern is what decides it.  The very early Pyrex, (Marked Pyrex Flameware) which one would think would be the most valuable, isn't because its clear glass and collectors think its boring.  The patterns that would be worthwile selling online (provided you got a deal on them) would be pink gooseberry, solid pink, Citrus, Verde, and maybe Primary colors, and Sunflower.

There isn't much demand for patterns like snowflake, wheat, butterfly gold, crazy daisy, and spring blossom, so I would not even waste my time buying them for online resale unless I got them for next to nothing.

The problem with selling the less popular sets, is the shipping alone may exceed what people are willing to pay for that pattern, so is it worth your time to list it, to only sell it for $2?  Remember you have to pay your Ebay, Paypal fees, plus whatever you paid for the item to begin with.

I found two Butterprint stacking mixing bowls the other day, one 1 1/2 quart and one 2 1/2, $1.75 for both.  I had one mixing bowl at home already which I thought was the next size up from the 2 1/2, but when I got home I saw it was the 2 1/2.  I looked on Ebay and though Butterprint is a popular pattern, a single bowl was not going for more than a few dollars.  I looked on Etsy where I sell stuff too and sellers were asking quite a bit for just a single 2 1/2 quart bowl.  I put mine up reasonably and it sold immediately.  So I got a new bowl for my growing Butterprint set and a few bucks profit.  I would check Etsy if you want to sell Pyrex.

I do also get all my bubblewrap, etc for free off of freecycle though I should add.  I probably could have marked my bowl higher but since I like getting bargains I always have reasonable prices on my stuff or do auctions and let the buyers decide what they want to pay.

There are two really good sites for IDing vintage Pyrex  - Pyrexlove.com (which you already know about) and The Pyrex Files - I don't have a link right at hand for that one, but you should easily be able to find it.  PyrexLove also has a really active Flickr group, and the people are really knowledgeable and helpful.

I once bought a full set of the pink Pyrex bowls on ShopGoodwill.com for like $80.  Susan thought I spent too much on it, but when we sold it for $180, she changed her mind.  We can never keep anything in the pink Gooseberry pattern either, it sells too fast.

I picked up some Early American refrigerator dishes at the food bank thrift the other day for 75 cents each (with lids).  I am not really into that pattern but I like any fridge dish and can always use extra lids.
