In the past two weeks, I have bought two hanging lamps from my  local Kidney Foundation's store. My neighbor came over today to hang them. The first one didn't work out and seems to be more of an outside light (it's brass and glass, and vintage, judging from the UL sticker on it, I got it for $3.03). The other one I paid $6.00 for, and it's more of a country look than I wanted, but since my neighbor was here and willing, we took down the first lamp and hung the second one over my kitchen table (I will send a picture later). The one I am keeping has a stamp from Feldman Lamp Co, Los Angeles, CA. People selling vintage lamps on Ebay sometimes mention this lamp company (now defunct, from what I can tell). Does anybody know about this company and their lamps? I'm trying to date the other lamp by the fonts on the UL sticker. I did find out that UL changed the wording from "inspected" to "issued" on their stickers in the 1960's. My lamp's sticker has "issued", but I still think it's pretty old.

Anyway, I'm happy with the lamp now. It's a bit country, but in a cool vintage way. I have several decorating books from the 50's and 60's, and I saw a very similar lamp in the 60's book.

Sounds cool Loveit! I have two hanging lamps that I found in the Thrift many yrs ago. One is hanging over my kitchen table and is white wrought iron shaped like an upside down bowl with daiseys in the middle of the ribs, and the other one hangs over my couch and it is longer, same premise as other one, ribbed, white wrought iron but with blue and gold flowers, I think I got them each (from different shops) for around 10.00$ and have enjoyed them for at least 10 yrs now, so enjoy yours! Sounds like a ton of fun. I can't say I've seen many hanging lamps at thrifts-- sounds like you were very lucky!

Oh indeed tsr! I love to look at them because they are so different and look like something you would find in a "designer " home, who ever got rid of them was not thinking, but alas now I have them so...

There was a third hanging lamp that I didn't buy, but I might (the price was right, for $4.00). It was a very funky lamp with wood pieces screwed into a main wood tower (this is hard to describe). It also has glass inserts between the wood. I'm sure by now you have no mental picture from my poor description. Sorry. It looks like a funky, Eames era, Danish modern, kind of lamp, maybe 60's, I just don't know. If I buy it, I'll send a picture. My instinct would be to clean up all that wood then sell it. It wouldn't fit into my decor (of course, I didn't think that rustic lamp would fit in, but I like it just fine).

Thanks for your replies about the lamp. It makes good scores so much more fun!!

Can't wait to see the pictures!  And man, you have a nice neighbor.  Grin I can't even get my husband to hang some of my awesome lights.   Sad

I am a lamp/hanging light lover, too.  We haven't had any good ones come into my thrift store lately.   So I have to hit GW to fulfill my lamp need.

I have never seen any really great lamps at a thrift.  In fact the SA's around here don't even bother to put many out anymore, I don't think they sell well.  I got a nice vintage tole desk lamp that I use on my desk there once & have seen some cute boudoir lamps, but all of my good lamp finds have been roadside cast-offs.  Thrift store are great for lamp shades & lamp fixtures like harps & finials though.  Both my roadside finds were missing shades, harps & finials so finidng these little essentail details for cheap is another wonderful reason to visit thrifts.  An .89 cent finial that is the perfect match for your lamp can really make your day!
