I bought a vintage GE fan back in December at the food bank thrift for 5 bucks, it is identical to this one:

We are having summer like weather today so I broke it out and it works great, I am impressed by how powerful it is even on the low setting, better than any window fan I have had.

I got so much good stuff at the food bank thrift up until about Jan.  They have a new manager and I hope the lack of anything good is not due to the change in management.

Several years ago I got this GE fan at the Sal Army, also for 5 bucks:

I never used it becase the space in the cage was too wide and I feared my cat would sit next to it and swish his tail right into the blade.  So I sold that one so basically got my new fan for free!

Glad I can turn off the fan now, it was getting a little too hot & humid for May!  Also glad that the barren streak has been broken at the food bank thrift.  Yesterday I got a pile of vintage flash cards for a buck, today I got a bunch of pink depression glass, 4 teacups, saucers and 5 luncheon plates, including one hard to find pattern for $3.75.  Guess they are finally getting some decent donations again.

Found a great buy at the Salvation Army. A  vintage mint green
comfort-air hassock fan in for $2:75.  Works great!

I had one of those I found at an estate sale for $5.  It worked great.
Then I lent it to a friend to help her after her divorce and she decided I was the cause of all her problems (long story that one) and never spoke to me again.  I never got it back, more's the pity.  I would have liked the fan back, the friend, not so much.

Great deal! I love vintage fans! My grandmother had one that was made in the 30's. After she passed away I looked for it, but it was no where to be found. I guess it had stopped running and she threw it away.
I really want the cabinet the one in the pic is sitting on!! Looks like an old library file cabinet.

I love old mechanical things in general, fans, typewriters, cameras, etc.  I was helping my sister clean out the attic at her house, which used to be my parent's house, and there was an old hassock fan up there in the original Sears box.  I didn't have room in the car this tme but that fan is definitely coming home with me.

Did anyone see the Antiques Roadshow where the woman brought in a pre-electric fan that used a kerosene flame to propel the blades?  Kind of defeats the purpose of a fan and a real fire hazard too!
