My father moved to CA several years ago & my sister & BIL bought the house.  He basically took some clothes & left everything else (was cheaper to buy new stuff in CA than ship stuff from MA to CA).  I had so much fun rummaging through the attic & basement & even the attic over the garage!  My parent never threw anything away so I found all kinds of interesting things & it was all up for grabs since my sister is not really interested in vintage stuff.  My father had this really funky phone in his darkroom, I don't know what type it was.  It was basically a phone with no base & the dial was on the back of the earpiece on the receiver.  Unfortunately he gave away a few things to friends before he left & the phone was one of them.

Sounds like he had a linesman's telephone rigged up in there...

Did some quick shopping today...

Wireless G router: $8.00

2 record albums:

George Benson:  Breezin':  $0.50
Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass:  What Now My Love:  $0.50

Both albums were in perfect condition with absolutely no scratches or wear that I can see.

When I got home I eagerly fired up my console stereo to play my new finds, and then I found out that the turntable doesn't work right.  I'll have to see if I can fix it.

Went to Goodwill last night...  Susan bought a full set of Mikasa dishes from the 70's.  Service for 16 - $24.99.  The dishes were yellow & orange, just like her kitchen.

I bought a tie styled after the King Kong movie poster.  I have several other ties from the King Kong colletction, and I had never seen this one so I had to have it.  $2.98

While waiting in line I glanced over the CD's.  I NEVER BUY CD'S, except for yesterday.  I bought 2, (or more correctly, 3).  (Both for $3/ea)

The Blues Brothers Definitive Collection

Zoot Suit Riot, The Swingin' Hits of the Cherry Poppin' Daddies.  When I got out to the truck I went to play this one, and found out it was a 2 CD set!

$8.98 spent.

Wow Jay you hit the jackpot.I am just curious on how long do you normally stay at a thrift store?Do you just skim through or are you a "don't touch it...its mine" type of shopper?
BTW..congrats on your finds.

So was the jackpot the tie, or the CD's?  As I mentioned earlier these ties were issued in a series, and I did not have this one.  I had bought several of them years ago in an outlet store for $1.25/ea.  Now I buy the last one (hopefully?) in the set, used, for $2.98!  The CD's were a fluke.  I figured that it would be a pain to find all those songs on the internet to download, and I certainly would have spent more than $6 to download all those tracks, so I consider it a very good buy, but like i said I never buy CD's.  I was just browsing the CD rack while standing in line because the line was moving very slowly.

Usually when I'm shopping I run in, skim through, and get out quick.  Yesterday I had met a friend for lunch at the Thai place accross the street from Goodwill, and when we were done we ran into Goodwill togeather.  That's when I bought the tie & CD's.  I saw the dishes, but figured Susan would either absolutely love them or hate them, so I called and left a message on her voicemail.  After leaving Goodwill I went to Big Lots to pick up some more sports drinks cheap.  When I got back out to the truck Susan had called and said she was coming to Goodwill to look at the dishes, so I drove back accross the street again to meet her @ Goodwill and show her the dishes.

In a rice cooker it comes out perfect every time.  Just dump the rice in, fill it to the line with water and push the button.  It shuts off all by itself and keeps the rice warm for up to 12 hours.  I told her all it takes is to make rice in a rice cooker once, and you'll never want to do it on the stovetop again.  I somehow feel compelled to get her a rice cooker now as well.  Maybe I'll give her my old one if my old roommate ever finds the lid to it in his kitchen.

Someone offered a 7 cup Aroma rice cooker/vegetable steamer on Freecycle the other day & I was the first one to respond!  It looks to be in good shape, the owner said she needed a bigger one so she had upgraded.  I hope it works well.

This is the second time you mentioned an appliance you had thrifted & shortly after I saw one on Freecycle (the first was the air purifier) - I think this site is bringing me good luck!

Last week a person offered a little used Cuisinart food processor with all the attachments, Oster bread maker, & waffle iron.  I replied to that one, the guy did call, but I wasn't home & he moved on to the next person.  I would have had the well applianced kitchen, which is quite laughable since I am a lazy cook.

Well, Went to Goodwill today in Sterling Park.  There were about a dozen vintage narrow Wembley ties from the 50's there.  I picked out the 3 best ones, and bought them.  I would have bought more, but this goodwill charges $2.98 for ties, and several of them were showing signifigant wear.  Now I have the perfect ties to wear with my pinstripe suit.

I've bought several...  I leave them at technologically challenged relative's homes so I can use my laptop at their homes...  Wink

Well, went to a Lions club sale in my hometown today, bought a vintage Pulsar LED digital watch for $10, hopefully a new battery will bring it back to life.  I also bought 2 vintage cookbooks for $1/ea.  While in town my sister showed me a new hospital thrift shop that just opened.  We went in, and I found the exact model vintage microwave oven (Amana RadarRange) that he had mentioned that he wanted.  It was in near mint condition, and only $15.
