Today I thrifted something I didn't even know existed, let alone imagined finding-- a Jane Austen bobblehead doll.

She seems to be a premium from Greenwood Publishing company. You can see one I'd spotted online here:

http://edificeref.info/?p=36

It cracked me up, not only because I write myself (and because I have quite a few more traditional bobbleheads from some work I'd done for the Pirates) because it sort of sums up how I feel about Jane Austen-- good fun, but not necessarily deep.

Anyway, she's sitting here being my Yes-person on the desk in my office.

It's got me thinking-- what was the weirdest thing you came across-- and bought?

ohmygosh TSR! she is so..um..21st century victorian? american upper class tchotsky? a genuine imitation?Huh

you really need her displayed prominently within your blog! she's awesome! wait - how much did she cost?? if she was 49 cents she might be the "most perfectly thrifted item ever." (it's a title - let's have a beauty contest!)

ps - i can't even think of the weirdest thing i've bought.. my son found a toy luchador  mask that he still wears. that was pretty weird, but it was his purchase, not mine. i'll have to think about this one - there seem to be too many choices.

She wasn't .49, but I think she was around two bucks. Ha, yes, she'd actually make a find blog mascot. :-)

(That IS one of the nice things about blogging about thrifting-- there is really NEVER any shortage of weirdness to talk about... Just when you think you've run dry of topics, something like a Jane Austen bobblehead shows up.)

Off to go look up what a luchador mask is...

Hm, the lost Jane Austen book about bobbleheads collecting in moneyed society...

TSR Smiley Smiley Smiley

I just read the topic title and KNEW it had to be from you. What a groovy find!

Is the Greenwood Press out of Southport, CT?

Ha, yep, SeSo, I can see where it wouldn't be much of a surprise. :-)

I just like the idea of anyone manufacturing kitschy merchandise for literary authors... It's like something out of one of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next novels.  Grin

I'm not sure where the press is located-- I did go to their web site, but didn't notice the locale.

They're in Westport, CT.  Enjoy your bobblehead. I like your description of her works Smiley

Check out the gallery under Knick Knacks for my "How to Resuscitate a Lizard" sign and my very favorite weird thrift score, these really awesome leather bean bag animals with button eyes:

I also posted a pic of a great felt ornament score from last year - I haven't found any really good ones this year, but I keep looking!

Oh, those are ENTERTAINING... I hadn't spotted those in the gallery before. Nope, I've not seen anything like them either.

What a great find... but wasn't Jane rather discerning about what she'd agree to?   She might not just mindlessly always want to say "yes."

Oh my gosh, TSR! I love her! Shocked

A couple of months ago, I thrifted a Shakespeare bobblehead! Grin Someone had obviously got rid of his/her collection because there were *lots* of different ones on the shelf. I think I paid a buck forty-nine for him. Bargain!

When I saw Willie, I just had to have him. He's the reason I met and married my husband. Wink

I can't think of what the strangest thing I have ever thrifted might be. Undecided I really seem to have a knack for buying ugly/weird things. Cheesy I cannot resist them!
