Was it karma? Was it just luck? Or other forces at work? Whatever it was got me a load of records today. First stop, the Sally down on the south shore. I never had time to adequately go through their huge and dangerously-stacked supply of records and thought I'd make up for it today. So I spent the next hour or two restacking all the records on the shelf (known on its price ticket as a "Shelving Monstrosity") vertically...and took 21 of them for myself. For a quaddapiece, wouldn't you? The manager thanked me for my work and the space I made.

So for a job well done, I hit the Goodwill across the street where the LPs were slightly more expensive (2 for $.99 on sale)...but substantially more worthwhile. I found a shopping cart full of records and asked if it was OK to look through them. Wow. It was almost all jazz, and almost all of it was in excellent condition. Gerry Mulligan, Ahmad Jamal, Wes Montgomery, Les McCann, Dizzy Gillespie, Bill Evans, Maynard Ferguson...can you stand it? For fun I also got an LP of Beatles songs done by The Brothers Four and an album called America In Music From Coast To Coast. It was a promotional from - ready for this? - your local Edsel dealer!

All told, $20 got me 51 albums and a great start on thrifting for the year.

Awesome!  I am still in search of a record player, I will probably break down & buy a new, retro looking one in the spring.  I hope your records sound great, have fun listening to them!

Wow.  That, my friend, is a GRAND SLAM.

As for the turntable, VTS, I'd avoid those vintage looking ones, as they generally have good looks but lousy transports.  You'd be better served with a Sony, Ion, or something like that which has a USB port for output.

Zed great score.  Funny, my turntable hasn't had a cartridge in 15 years, but I still buy albums just for there cover art and resale.
I bought my Denon turntable, rosewood base, of course, about  6 months before CD players got affordable.  It hasn't seen much use in tha last 23 years.

I have no patience though, if I don't find an album I want in the first 50, I quit. I was very tempted recently to buy a whole bunch of reel to reels , cool to have cover art in a little smaller format.

Wouldn't you know, I just donated a Sony reel-to-reel to the Sally. The Goody got a box of books. Maybe that explains the luck I had. Give something, get something!

So maybe it's good that I didn't post every title I got. Don't want to make you too jealous. Wink
