Today was in the neighborhood of my favorite thrift so I ran in for a minute.  Not much I was interested in until I started to leave.  And I couldn't believe what I saw lying there on the  counter.  An American Girl doll, Kit to be exact for those of you that know about AG dolls.  For the asking price of $2.50.  Not bad for a doll that goes for around $100.
My DD has two of them and I have always wanted one myself but never wanted to spend that kind of $$$$ on a doll.
I decided to grab her adn get out of the store ASap before soomeone figured out what I really had.  I went to the chekout line and started to get in the shortest line but there was a woman and a girl about 10 in line ahead of me. Figuring they might say something to give it away I got out of line and got in another line, behind a hairy guy in a Harley tshirt.  Figured he wouldn't have a clue.
I was actually shaking when I paid for her.
Her face was real dirty and her hair  mess and her dress was dirty. A little alcohol on a cotton ball cleaned up her face, a wigbrush took care of her hair and a little soak cleaned her dress right up. ebcsupport@insightbb.com can get out those patterns I used for Dd's dolls and make Kit some new clothes.  Yayyy me!

Cool!  Those dolls are neat.  My daughter use to get the magazine.  Isn't it nice to find those special treats?

What a bargain!  Also very timely since the Kit movie is coming out.  My daughter has three of those dolls, which were all gifts, so luckily I did not have to shell out the $ for them.  I have found some AG accessories at thrifts, but most people with kids know the AG dolls, so the even the thrift employees would catch that one around here.  Maybe because it was dirty someone marked it low.  Some people don't realize how easy it is to clean these things up.  I have snagged many a bargain from fixer uppers.

One thing I forgot to add is that I am always surprised when people talk about buying something quickly before anyone changes the price.  Once something is marked at a thrift around here they can't change the price at the register, I would feel sorry for any manager or clerk who tried to up the price on a marked item- he or she would get quite an earful I'm sure!   I am having trouble doing anything tonight.  My computer had to go for a visit with the Nerd Patrol and I am on DSs laptop nd nothing is where I am used to.
I can direct you to a link.
www.americangirl.com
Click on Shop, then click Dolls, then click on Kit and Ruthie. Kit is the one with the short blond hair.
If you don't know AG dolls are dolls that represent girls at different parts of America's history.  Kit is supposed to be a girl from Cincinnati in the Great Depression.  I live near Cincinnati so an appropriate doll for me.  DD had Samantha, a girl from turn of the century who aunt is a suffragette, and Molly a girl who lived in the 40s during WW2, who's father is away fighting.
Now I have told you far more about AG dolls than you prolly ever wanted to know:)  According to the web site, a doll and one book are $90.
DS said I should sell her on e-bay.  I told him if he kept up that kind of talk, I'd throw out his share of the pizza I got for dinner.

I love finding these kinds of things!  Love the feeling.  I think that is a large part of why I keep treasure hunting.

Kit's face is now clean, her hair is combed and her dress is spotless.  Took me about 10 minutes to get her cleaned up.  I figure I have saved $87.50.  Not bad for a few minutes work.  I guess if more people figure out how easy it is to clean things and spend a few minutes fixing things, then our competition would be even more intense.  We spent a lot when we bought DD's two AG dolls.  That why I never bought myself one.  But for what I spent, I couldn't pass her up.

I know that, but I always feel that somehow someone will snatch my find at the last minute.  And I don't want to fend off others who realzie what I have.  I have had people literally trying to take things from my cart while shopping, something I don't take kindly too.  When I stop them I usually get the "Oh I didn't realize this cart was being used."  So when I find a treasure, I try to keep a poker face and get out of the store quickly.

Out of LURKER mode...

I had some luck like this about 4 years ago - found Samantha Parkington with some accessories for $5.99 at a local Goodwill.  My 11 year old still has her and still plays with her.

Kit for $2.50 is a friggin' bargain to beat the band.  Nice Going!

See you next time
Bye for now.

...we now return to LURKER mode
