It's my first piece, but I think it was a bargain.

$23.97 after my 20% off coupon at the Surprise, AZ Goodwill.

I don't think I've seen legs like this before, so maybe it's a made up piece, but I don't know.

See you next time
bye for now

OH WHAT A GREAT FIND!!!!

...and the price is FANTASTIC!  No it is definitely not a reproduction - this dates around the WW2 timeframe and they did a whole series with the bamboo/rattan.  I saw an entire set at an estate sale the table/chairs, buffet, and 2 side tables - it was VERY expensive...and I thought unusual for the HW...I currently have a dresser/mirror and a stool! - and simply love the smooth lines...check out this link to ebay for just 1 of the side tables (and it is not near as cool as this corner table!)

 Grin  Good eye!!!!

PS...after reading the actual post - great heading with the  "Hey!" "Wake" up part ... that was a pun for the Heywood Wakefield - right?  I thought so...  Cool

From the little digging I've done so far, I think this type is called "Rattan."

My HS age daughter says:  "Cute Table - It looks Bohemian."

What a find! How did they let that slip by? It looks to be in great condition. Those tables go for upwards of $350 in some stores in Atlanta.

From what I have been able to discern, your piece is post 1946 (Hey-Wake adapted that trademark in 1946) Hey-wake in the Ashcraft series.  The legs look OK to me from what I can see.

Cheers,

I've peeled off the price tags and lemon oiled the tops.  Up close, it definitely looks like its seen use over the years.  But it hasn't been refinished, which is key.

Second Hand Sophisticate (kickin' it old school!) - Any information you can glean from the Hey-Wake book would be absolutely appreciated.  My knowledge of Hey-Wake is limited to approximate time frames of production and what it looks like in general, and that they have different "styles" or "lines."  Beyond that, I know nothing.

See you next time

WOW! incredible. i am totally green with envy. It is beautiful - congratulatioons.

i once passed up an entire HW rattan living room set - my mom was going to buy it for me at this little thrift store. i had no house, and didn't want to store all those pieces at my folks' place. i was young.. and SO stupid to pass it up. it was covered in dark green hibiscus print bark cloth and every piece was in perfect condition.

i hesitate to write the price but here goes.. $250. complete.

ouch.

BDA---check out this site:
http://www.springdalefurnishings.com/florida_room/springdale_florida_rm.html

If your table is indeed Ashcraft (and I am making a guess that it could be, based on the pics), here's what the Hey-Wake book I have says:

"Ashcraft was a product born out of necessity.  With shipments of rattan halted by WWII, the company turned to New England Ash, which was used to develop a line of summer furniture featuring a natural finish.  Convinced steam bent ash was more attractive than rattan, Hey-Wake eventurally adopted the Ashcraft name for its summer furniture line. The company continued making Ashcraft after the war, proving that this bent ash could be used for more than porch furniture as it designed entire lines of Ashcraft, including dining room furniture and a bedroom suite." (pg 43, Rouland and Rouland)

Also, if you are really curious, I would drop that above company a note and a pic and see if they could identify it for you.

Mattie and/or Scott...can you ID this for the Big Guy?

See ya,

I know exactly the set you are speaking of.  A dealer friend of mine had the exact same set at the last show we did togeather about 2 months ago.  He had the sofa and loveseat with the original upholstry in good condition.  I think he sold it for $1,200 or $1,500.

Are you going to use the table in your home or sell it? I was just wondering.

I have a story to tell you - when I got my very first apartment in Atlanta, with a roommate, we got most of our furniture from my roommate's aunt who had a basement full of "junky" furniture. One of the pieces we took was a table exactly like yours. I have no idea whether it was Hey-Wake, and we would not have been interested to look underneath it, but it very well might have been Hey-Wake. It worked beautifully next to a sofa we made out of bricks, boards, and cushions (believe it or not, the sofa was kind of comfy).

After a year, we gave up the apartment and went our separate ways. My roomate called Goodwill to pick up all the "junky" furniture we had borrowed from her aunt. The aunt didn't want it back.

That was in 1970.
