I thrifted this pair of candlesticks today from a Goodwill. I got them for $1.99. They are marked 'Meridional E.P.S.' I am guessing the EPS stands for electroplated silver? They're definitely NOT silver and they are hideously tarnished!

Anybody know anything about Meridional or E.P.S.?

Thanks! Smiley

Very nice!  Here's an eBay link that shows you've got something
http://cgi.ebay.com/Antique-MERIDIONAL-100-Silver-Plated-TRINKET-BOX_W0QQitemZ150166627736QQihZ005QQcategoryZ1216QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Meridional is a certain kind of weather pattern that is curved...much like your find.

Could they be Oneida, perhaps? I don't know anything about silver or e.s.p.

Hope this helps some. Good luck with your search.

Thanks, gals. Smiley

I tried Google and I tried ebay and I couldn't find squat!

If they *are* Oneida, there's no mark! Sad

I like 'em. I'm gonna keep 'em. I just wish I knew more about them! Undecided

I tried ebay and google and ask.com. Nothing. When I googled it all the pages that came up were in Spanish  Huh Hopefully one of us will find out something one of these days.

I wish I had an answer for you, Mrs. Goodwill. I'm afraid I don't know the answer either. But inevitably someone will stumble upon it sometime.

I, too, believe the ESP stamp is for electro-silver-plate, and from the design, I would guess these are worth keeping.  A slightly little known bit of history...

Back in the pre-union and arts and craft sort of days, groups of tradespeople and artisanas formed communities that were akin to guilds.  Many were religious in origins.  The Oneidas believed Christ would soon return and they'd all be free of sin, and thus didn't need to live with the usual moral restrictions.  They were into free love, communal conjugal opportunities and such. It was a Utopian society that practiced Communalism.

This does look like an older style piece and I would hang on to it (and just because it the term "electro" is used, doesn't mean it's "modern," as electroplating was possible in the late 1800's) .

Thriftily,
Alexandra
