I've been keeping it slow and low the past few weeks...money is tight and gas is expensive. However, I had to scratch my thrift itch this weekend, so off I went.  The finds:

Vintage Coach purse, made in NYC--may be a Cashin design. Worn, soft leather, structurally in excellent condition. Vintage green-on- green Vera scarf with ladybug logo.  Bonus find: vintage nik-nik scarf from the 70s. I understand these are getting quite collectible by vintage clothing lovers.

Fabulous vintage Adrienne Vittandini silk shawl--the colors are so much more vibrant than this:

A huge "Chanel" scarf--appears to be handrolled. Could it be real? I'm pretty sure it's faux, but if ya don't look too close, who's to know?(Oceangurl, your opinion, please!) It is sooooooo 80s:

Finally, some funky Frankoma pottery. I have come to love the earthiness of these pieces:

One mug has a green tint.  The candlestick holder looks much better in person. The other mug has a gold tint. Anybody know anything about these pieces or the place that is mentioned on the cups?

I also got a groovy bamboo tiki-style lamp, which I will post later on. I am running out of house for my lamps, lol! Enjoy!

Never heard of Nik Nik, good to know, I looked online & that designer also made some awesomely flamboyant disco shirts.  Vera scarves are great - here's a bunch of I found at a church sale last spring, .25 cents each (the heart one I found at the SA.)

I passed over a Vera tablcloth once at the SA, but did get these placemats for .29 cents each a few months ago.

I found a Vera sheer scarf with a little deer on it once at the SA too.  The trouble with the scarves is that they stab them with the price gun.  I tried to gently soak my scarf, so the price gun hole would shrink & be less noticible, but ruined the scarf.  I made quite a few "suggestions" about pricing the scarves & received some annoyed looks, but I noticed they are finally pricing them through the tags on the scarves.  Of course now that they do that I haven't seen any good ones.

Your placements totally and awesomely awesome! You rock!! And you are smart to pass up any scarves with holes in them, even teeny-tiny ones. I have gotten into the habit of holding mine up to bright light, so I can catch any little holes, fabric wear, etc.  Nice scores!

Thanks!  I should probably cut down on my use of the word awesome, but what else can you say about this shirt?

I'm up for that photo op, any time!!! That Picasso scarf must be gorgeous. I have a warm spot in my heart for Mr. P...

Wow, the red version of that Coach is wonderful. Did you thrift it? I could never afford a new Coach, back in the late 70s/early 80s. In the corporate world at that time, nothing said "you've arrived" more than a Rolex and a Coach. So, I'm a little late on the Coach Tongue (or at least that particular style, which it seemed all the "cool" jr. execs had)

BTW, here's a funny story: A few years ago, I walked into a "Coach" store in the NE. I was carrying a vintage Coach that I had gotten from a vintage dealer, that I am sure is a Cashin design. I was looking for the Coach polish and cleaner. Well, the snooty young lady clerks looked at my delightful Bonnie Cashin-designed, prototype vintage Coach handbag in total  disdain! Worse, still, they didn't even know who Bonnie Cashin is! They knew nothing of the history of the company, the leather used, etc. They were way toooooo busy selling those made-in-Costa Rica or China or Korea "noveau riche" Coaches for 9 kazillion bucks. Fine. If that's what you like, fine. But, geez and boy howdy, at least KNOW a little about the history of the company for which one works.

As far as your closet and the stuff you give away--it means you have excellent taste as well as being a smart shopper!

Great finds!  Some days, thrifting is just so much fun.  And you had one of those days.  The thrifting gods smiled on you.
There was a local sotre that sold Frankoma pottery but it closed several years ago.  Too bad,  I like the stuff and the shop was pretty reasonable on prices.

Hey Seso! A little late to get in on the convo but I was out of town in Tampa for the weekend! Managed to go to the "new" Goodwill there, that place is so rad, you really must check it out if you get a chance, rows and rows of purses, shoes, shirts, pants , nic nacs etc. I bought a cute sundress, turquoise, a darker blue and black flowers on a white background, with turquoise ruffles (2 rows) on bottom, it goes past the knees and is a tshirt material, real spanish looking, cute, a pink night gown in tshirt material with 2 rows of ruffle on bottom (do I see a trend here or a compulsion that day for ruffles? lol!) and a lilly type skort of dark pink, light pink and a rose pink flowers on lime green background made by "Bamboo Traders" no doubt some castoff from a society lady who lunches and plays golf! lol! All for $20.00, they run a little high there but I had fun! About your finds you go Gurl, you made some awesome discoveries! I have vintage Vera placemats also but they are in Spring colors of lime greens, darker greens, yellows and oranges,  of different vegtables, got those yrs ago , I think they are made of some kind of light linen, very impressive! About your scarf, in my opinion it definatley is a real Chanel, that was a pattern of hers for many yrs and also it also has a Versace sort of feel with what he was famous for of chains and lockets etc, back in the day that was a very COMPETITIVE pattern that meant that you had old money and had arrived, you know think of ladies lunching! lol! So it would make sense to me that Ms. CoCo would have copied that pattern from Versace or at least should I say institude her own interpertation of it. So yes in my opinion I think you have a original, try to Ebay it and you might find a comp, let me know! As always Iam jealous of your keen eye for discovories, Ciao my friend....Oceangurl! Smiley

I think your Vera placemats, Oceangurl, might be the same style my mom had when I was growing up!!

It sounds just the same. Is one of the flowers something that looks a bit like a large orange poppy? (along with the olive green and yellow flowers, of course)...

I have been laying low lately due to lots of upheaval where I work and a new puppy at home.  So not a lot of thrifting has been going on -- but I had to comment on Nik-Nik.  What a blast from the past.  Yes, they made disco shirts that were all the rage.  So did Huck-a-poo.  Back in the day of pucca shell necklaces, these were the big style statement in my high school!

On Saturday, I did manage to carve out some Amvets time and picked up two Izod Shirts, a Lauren Polo, and  Vera pillowcase -- for $7.91 including tax (as the result of a three dollar coupon).

I am actually planning to separate the two sides of the pillow case to make curtain swags for my RV.

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Hi Alexandra, been missing your bright presence here. What did you name your new puppy?

I love that idea of using that pillow case for swags! I will love to see pics when y'all do. What's the color and design?

Thanks for asking!  The new puppy is "Teddy Roosevelt" which is of course "Teddy" for short -- even though she's a girl.  We always name after presidents.  I am convinced she is a direct descendant of Lucifer but does have an angelic moment here and there...

I've missed thrifting, posting and blogging -- and hope to be back to it by Monday!

Thriftily,
Alexandra
