Spacecadet (my hubby) thrifted two albums in great condition.

They are:

Buffalo Springfield: Retropsective

Canned Heat: Collage

The Canned Heat is good, standard stuff. I'm not crazy about it. Hubby make like it.

But: The Springfield is MIRACULOUS!  Has anybody else heard this album (recently? Grin) It came out in '69. It's ATCO SD 33-283. The music is just incredible. The cover art work is tripping.  But the music...kinda English Beat with an American groove. I can't describe it, but it beautifully captures the times (YES, I WAS THERE)

Does anybody know anything about them?  I, of course, do remember "FWIW", which is the first song on the first side, but there is sooooooo much more to this album. A lot of the songs appear to have been written by Neil Young and Steven Stills.

The back blurb reads:

"Of all the groups to have emerged in America in the middle sixties, Buffalo Springfield will be remembered as one of the most creative and exciting.  The very power of the individual writing and performing talents of the members was also the reason for the break-up of the original group. It was comprised of Steve Stills, Neil Young, Richie Furay, Dewy Martin and Bruce Palmer, later replaced by Jim Messina.  More will be heard from all of them.

Contained herein are some of the outstanding recordings in their original format..." Signed, Ahmet Ertegun.

I'm listening to it now. It is a classic! Nice catch, Spacecadet Grin Grin

More pudding for you tonight!

Stills is brilliant.  Excellent songwriter, guitarist, singer.  I have a few of his albums (but not the Buffalo Springfield).  Can take or leave Young.

See you next time
Bye for now.

Buffalo Springfield where way ahead of their time, withut them it would be safe to say there would have not been the whole country rock era, with bands like the Eagles.
I  particularly like  their version of Blue Bird, much better than CSN's.

I saw Stills in 1980 and he was great.  He had an african band with him, this was years before Paul Simon did the same thing.. Right now, I believe he is battling cancer.

Neil Young, while I love him, put on one of the worst concerts in my life.  He played a  brand new album in it's entirety, with stage actors acting out the songs, then  only played 3 old songs for an encore..none of them "hits".   I will never forget hearing 18,000 people collectively sigh each time a song started and it wasn't anything good...

Hi I'm Troy McClure, you might remember me from such celebrity funerals as Andre The Giant, We Hardly Knew Ye & Shemp Howard, Today We Mourn A Stooge.
