Little People collectors - drool....

Last night at the Sal Army store, I scored huge finding 1972 Fisher Price little people sets still in original boxes with directions and all accessories.  Clerk told me that they had received a bunch of these older toys that day from the main office in Springfield.  Some woman scored with 2 cart loads full of FP toys.  I guess she left these because she must not have had any room in her car left.  Dang wish I'd taken the afternoon off work!!   Grin  I got the Camper, A frame cabin, FP cash register, the houseboat and also a 1972 Playschool Holiday Inn setup. (like the little people).  All were under $2.00.

I am green with envy, but so glad they went to someone who is excited about them and not just excited about how much they can get for them.

I'm with Pedeka. I look for joy and beauty when I thrift, and to learn about good design, not for the almighty dollar. Though, I think that this follows  Grin.  But it's not uppermost in my mind.

PS--CONGRATS!  You sound so happy, and I am happy for you!!!

I can't seem to help myself whenever I find some of the little people items.  I know the wood people are a better find than the plastic ones, but I take them all.  The papers (designs, stickers whatever) on these are in perfect condition, with no rips or faded areas.

I have no little kids anymore nor grandkids.
Since we're starting to redo the rooms in the house one of the gals here said it'd be neat if I could redo one of the extra bedrooms into a vintage toy room to display the stuff.  Problem is I rarely go upstairs.  Oh well, I imagine someday we'll have grandkids to play with them.

I really like that idea of a vintage toy room. You're a kid aren't you?  :)Consider it cheaper than therapy, lol. And you will be prepared for when you do have grandbabies. Consider "the toy room" the starting of a really cool trend---You're beating Martha and Rachel by a few years.

When I was little, I had the schoolhouse, the farm, and the house.  I would spend HOURS just opening and closing the barn door to hear the MMMMOOOOOOO.  I loved the table with the 4 chairs and the bed that had sponges in the bottom for cushions.  It is hard to find the chairs and the bed with the cushions.  My favorite wooden person was the one with the freckles, because he always looked so mad, like this  Angry I always wondered what had happened to tick him off so much......  Now, unfortunately, all that is left of my LP collection is the brown/white cow,black/white pig, and the sheep.  I have run out of room on my Fisher Price shelf to fit more toys....... Not to put a downer on this, because i think the finds are really great, but are these the newer (larger) little people or the original size (smaller) little people?  My caution is with the original size which a child can swallow the smaller ones and get it trapped making the child unable to breathe.

This actually happened in a community I lived in where some young mothers were having a chat right outside on teh patio where they could see the children playing in the living room.  They had a vintage FP set there and a toddler swallowed one of the little people. The other kids just thought the kid had gone to sleep and continued playing while the mothers also thought everything looked fine. When the mom did come in to check, she did find the child unconcious.  The child was revived, but is severely brain damamged.

So extreme  caution has to be taken with the vintage sets, as with any toys.  and of course tons of kids have played with those vey sets without injury, but it's always best to be careful.  But like I said, neat find!

That is excellent information, thank you for posting it.  I never heard that before.
