This is sooo cool.  I had to have it!  Paid $6 and the paper on the back says it's one of 60 done by the artist.   The pictures don't do it justice.

I love it!  The print is fantastic, and what a deal.

It used to be that I'd find good artwork in the thrifts, but not so much any more. Congrats on a wonderful find!

I didn't know the artist, Dorothy Bowman, so I just did a search. Were you aware that her work is listed in fine art auctions and that she is a known and collected artist?

The LAPD lists one of her works in the "stolen art" section of their official Website. http://www.lapdonline.org/paintings_and_prints_b_/content_basic_view/32218

What a lovely picture!  Just so you know, when I clicked on your link I got your whole photobucket account instead of just the one pic.  You might want to use just the picture link.  But great snag, I rarely find any good art at the thrifts.

valleythriftshopper, thanks for telliing me about the link issue with my account.  Fixed it right quick.

Femme1, how did you find out that there are stolen pieces by this artist?  I clicked on the link and it looks like there  may be more than one missing serigraph.  Interesting.  I knew I liked it because it was different.  I really had no idea when I bought it that it may be worth something.  FUN!

Kris, I did a Yahoo search on "Dorothy Bowman serigraph" and the LAPD site came up. Some of the other links that came up were of various art exhibitions that listed some of her works. I couldn't find a bio or anything and don't know if she's still alive, but apparently she worked in the 50s and 60s.

This eBay auction came up, but I'm not sure if it's the same artist, although the work looks similar. Here's what the entry says about the artist: Dorothy Louise Bradford Bowman (b.1927) is a listed, well exhibited California printmaker whose work spans much of the second half of the 20th century.  http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Mod-Silkscreen-Painting-Dorothy-Bradford-Bowman_W0QQitemZ130116524082QQcmdZViewItem

Yep, that's the same Dorothy Bowman. The eBay picture is alot like it but yet it's not. My kids don't understand my picture.  It's called Golden Dream but it's very abstract.

She and her husband and I think daughter were all artists.  I'm having trouble finding info on her, too.  I wish some of those art sites didn't have a subscription fee.   Sad  I'll keep digging though, there must be something out there.   Smiley

Not to sound morbid, but the fact that she is still living factors in on the value of her paintings too.  When she passes away  Cry, the value of her paintings may increase.

I'm not sure if she's alive or not.  I think her daughter is though.  Did you find more info?

All the references I have seen of her state her birthdate with no date of death, therefore she is probably still living, but obviously very old & probably not working anymore.  I did see something written by one of her children that talks about the parents in the present tense & a reference to her husband, who seems to be more notable, that lists a birth date only, (he'd be close to 90, she 80) so they may both still be living.

Here's another one of her works that was listed in Ebay Express

Yours is nicer.
