How hard is it to participate in an estate sale?

It is not hard at all to participate in an estate sale.  Just like garage sale except the whole estate is up for sale.
Around here they are advertisede in the classified with garage/yard sales, usually on week-ends but not always.
DD and I look  thru the paper on Fridays and Saturdays and mark any that look promising.  Then we just show up with cash in hand.  Believe me the sellers want you to come. And we want to be there.

I have been selling for 10 years on ebay. Prices you can get are down. Collectibles don't sell as well. What is hotter are new everyday items people need like vacuum cleaner bags or water filters. Found 24 new in box electrolux vaccuum bags for $2 at GW sold them within an hour for $18. I go to church sales get hepa vacuum filter for $1 sell for $12 or new small appliances someone got for christmas never used so donated to church sale, I get for $5 sell for $25. Found 3 Magic Bullet mixers at one sale last year.

Ebay is upping their seller fees again, and many sellers have abscounded to other venues, so buyers aren't cruising it as much as before - plus the bad economy has more people selling than buying.....hopefully that will change!

I'm having good luck lately with the fixed price format.  I list items at my "happy" price and have been really satisfied with the results... Green is good in so many ways!  Smiley

etsy is fabulous, i sell over there and I adore it.  Good customers, far few weirdos than ebay.  It takes longer to sell things though for the most part.

I primarily deal in vintage lingerie, though I have expanded some over the holidays (I watched "Hoarders" too many times  Grin)

I finally opened an eBay store. (http://www.myniftythrifty.com) only because they finally put the search results for store items in with the auctions. I know the new fees suck but for me it's a place to "park" my unsold items so to speak.  I figure the constant exposure is worth it and helps me stay organized. Hey, it's a tax write off right?

I am new to this site and loving it already!    Cheesy  I have been selling on ebay for over 10 years - not as good as it use to be but still making some money on my cheap finds.  I sell mostly kids clothing.

Hi there too blessed. I too have been selling on eBay for over 11 years. All from thrift store goods (you can take a peak if you'd like at MyNiftyThrifty. eBay rules sure get in the way but they still are where the buyers go.

Do you sell thrift store goods?

Welcome!

I didn't realize this website had a forum until today.....I always used it for locating stores when I'm in the mainland. This is certainly exciting for me.
Ebay.....I used to sell my thrift store finds, but like a lot of you who have posted it's just too high for me. Especially detracting from my sales was the fact that I live in HI and shipping costs and times really got to be a problem. (yes, even with the flat rate USPS boxes.)
Craigslist is super big over here and I've found this is the best route for me. I mainly work on refinishing/revamping furniture that I find. It's my passion.
So glad to have found this forum!   Pam

I'd love to see pictures of your refinished furniture.  I used to bring home curbside furniture to paint, but stopped because at the rate I paint them (maybe one or two pieces a year).  They were starting to pile up.  I had heard that shipping to HI was more expensive than the continental US, but I have shipped a couple of things there and it was the same as west coast shipping, at least through USPS.

Here's a link to my blog where you could see a few before and afters http://veryirie.blogspot.com/p/before-afters.html

I hope this is okay to post the link? Thanks for any advice on how to add a pic.
