The other day at work, my client and I had some free time, so we trekked over to the Salvation Army in the city where she has therapy. It's a great shop. So, I am browsing and I happen upon two carts with boxes in them filled with scarves, hats, gloves...all for 49 cents each. I pulled out one scarf, not paying close attention really, but basically loved the design and tossed it in my cart with three other scarfs.

Later at home, I am putting my finds away, and I discover on closer inspection that this scarf is marked Hermes. I thought...yeah, right. Haha. I just bought a knock off Hermes scarf. Out of curiosity I began looking online for info on Hermes scarves. And according to the factors for determining real vs. faux...my scarf should be a genuine Hermes. However, I am still skeptical.

I am wondering...anyone know how I could go about verifying the authenticity of my scarf? Because, I want to make sure it's a real Hermes before I go bragging about what a freakin' awesome deal I just found.

Thanks!  Grin

Ebay has category specific discussion forums, there is a clothing & accessory one.  If you can post a picture of your item I am sure someone can tell you if it is real.  Also you can check the guides on Ebay too, people write guides on these topics, especially ones about designer brands, probably is a Hermes guide up there.

Hi! Yeah, that's where I've looked. I'll have to try taking photos and posting and see if anyone can tell me for sure. If it's not real...it's sure a verrry good knock-off.

I just picked up a $3 Hermes scarf in a local thrift last week. I was skeptical, but upon closer inspection of the real thing at a consignment shop, I believe I got the real thing! Is the hem rolled to the front, not back like scarves usually are? Also, the way the word "Hermes" is written is a clue, rarely do they do block letters. I hope yours is real, it beats my $1 authentic Gucci doctor bag!

snowbird, if you are still wondering about the authenticity of your Hermes, post a picture of it and I would be able to help you. (I am also just curious to see what it looks like!) It sounds like a great find...I always look through the silk scarves when I thrift, cause they are almost always marked so cheaply, and I've already found a 70's Christian Dior logo scarf and a 70's Yves Saint Laurent Scarf. They were probably both marked $1.00 (cant remember exactly). Your scarf could very likely be a real Hermes. Happy to see someone else found something amazing!!!  Wink
