2007 is ending on a fantastic high note for me.

Jay, Zed, Scott, and Good Buddy will probably appreciate what I'm about to lay down:

At a relatively new Salvation Army in Casa Grande (about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson) $77.52 (the whole store was on 50% off yesterday - I still can't believe my good fortune on these) bought me (now dig this):

2 (yes, TWO) Adcom GFA-555 power amplifiers (both work!)
1 Hafler P1000 power amplifier (It works)
1 Technics SL-B5 turntable with cartridge (it works)
1 Sansui TU-517 tuner (it works)
1 Sansui AU-517 integrated amp (it works)

The Adcoms sold for about $1000 new (each) and are stated to fetch $300-400 in good condition presently.
I don't know how much the Hafler sold for new (But David Hafler amps are top quality)
The Sansui's are sought after pieces - the tuner usually sells for $100-150 on eBay (per the Tuner Information Center)
The turntable is a "changer" model.  The tall spindles weren't present, but I tend to not use them anyway.  Turntables are hot right now.

It all works.  This find pretty much fully eclipses the Mitsubishi DA group I found in February of 2005.

I'm flabbergasted at my good fortune.  While not on the same level, this might compare to Jay finding a carton of mint phones from the 1950's or Zed finding a "Jaguar" or "Dreamcast" game system new in the box.  At 50% off.

See you next time
bye for now

Appreciate or envy?  Shocked I think just for the Adcoms that price would have been a deal. I saw a GFA-1 for $49.99 last time I was out, coupled with a $49.99 Biamp mixer. Too bad I didn't have use for them.

Killer BDA! I have never looked at the vintage audiio with as much interest since you Zed, Troy and Jay have been posting.
I'll be looking for a reeeeally nice receiver for my pair of Altec 890-c Bolero speakers.
I'd like to have a plain stereo system in the master bedroom to only listen to records with.
We just purchased a home in Vero Beach, our first. I'm really going to look for some great vintage audio now that we'll be living in the to east coast thrift mecca.

Please let me apologize for my absence from the forum. I"ve been working with the new hosting as well as purchasing the home.
The good news is that I'll be making the site my 100% full time job. I hope I can make the site better for everyone.

Caio!

From one first-time homebuyer to another, congratz! It'll take a while to recover from the paperwork, but living in Vero Beach sounds like it's worth it. Pix soon?

I really have no idea what you bought except for what you said about the purchases.  But I am really excited for you! It;s just really cool that these items that you appreciate and understand Grin were in the right store at the right time for you.  Wow.  How great is that!

I also love this site for giving me new perspectives on thrifting.  I tend to overlook the electronics section (cuz I'm dumb about that stuff) but now I appeciate it more because I know folks like you are so happy to find those things.

Yup, it's great you've found such a goldmine of stuff you love.

It's hard not to be happy for a fellow thrifter who strikes it big on a fav item, no matter what it  is.

Mid Century Modern seems to be the thing right now, so to put it in those terms -

How about matching original condition Hey-Wake end tables (oh, let's say "wheat" for this example) being found in a thrift store for about $150.00 (a good deal, right?)  Now let's say that store was having a "50% off everything" sale that day (at $75.00, now it's an amazing deal).

See you next time

No - I'm just using it as an example in order to instill the thrill of what my find meant to me.  I know that this example of the Hey-Wake End Tables will be widely recognizable within this group as a legendary find.

But the example worked - it caught your attention and got you excited!
