Man, I picked the right weekend to go back home. The thrift stores all had nice presents for me. We have a chain of Family Thrift stores that occasionally has cool things in it. Yesterday they had a Sega Saturn game system...but kind of a different one. A white one. I found out from the local video game store owner that it's a Japanese version, and that I practically stole it for not quite $15.

One of the VIA stores had a lot of Philips CD-i gear...the player itself, a video cartridge, a kids' roller controller, a game controller, and about 2 dozen discs. Little did I know it was "half off anything with an electrical cord" week, so this whole pile of stuff cost me not the $35 the player was marked as, but $17.50. All this was well over $1,000 15 years ago.

And I came home a little early today, so I took advantage of it and thrifted a little more. Whoops. I took my first spin around one store and didn't find anything. I looked a little closer the second time and...oh, QUACK! That's an Atari Lynx! Having spotted one with a cracked screen at a flea market a few weeks ago, I figure that if this one doesn't work, I can use it as parts for that one if I can still get it.

Hope your Thriftsmas is as merry as mine was!

Although not in the same vein as your finds, I did hit the Christmas Jackpot myself, with just one item: a "Tempron Taste Tempters" cream and sugar set from 1951, complete and in good shape, by Ben Seibel for Gilley. This is one of my favorite lines by this designer, and I consider this find "my little Christmas miracle" since the glass spoon for the sugar has most often been broken or lost.

Congrats on your success, and I wish everyone here a healthy, happy, and thriftingly prosperous 2008!

Dear Gentlemen--gentle men:

Congrats to you both on your wonderful, fabulous, Thriftmas finds. I am so happy for y'all.  Keep on rockin' in the thrift world in 2008 and beyond.

Peace on Earth,
