Over by the knick-knacks at the local Goodwill was this cute little pair of speakers. I wasn't expecting much with their size and all, but as I got closer, I realized what these were: a pair of Canadian-made Energy Take 2 home theater speakers. Nice and small - they're a good fit on top of my 27" tv. They retailed for $180 a pair when they were new. I could've done a half-price special since the checker lady didn't see the word "EACH" on the price stickers, but honesty prevailed, and I got the pair for...$10.

I wonder if the donor had 3 other speakers to make a full home theater setup...and if he did, if they'll be coming to the store anytime soon  :?

ZS,

I'm a huge home audio buff, great find! We have two pairs of 1974 Advent speakers that we use for our home theater, we just bought a center channel (Advent too) and a sub (Polk Audio) and it sounds fantastic. I also just bought a pair of Altecs at a local church thrift. I bought the pair for $15 and when I got home and looked up what a pair goes for on Ebay, I was stunned to see someone selling just the parts without the cabinets for $180! The speakers I bought had also already had the surrounds replaced. I have not yet hooked them to a system, but I think they'll make a great pair of bedroom speakers..
I'll be writing an artical on buying speakers at thrifts, keep a look out..

Sounds like you got yourself quite a deal. Altecs are well-regarded on the audio forums I visit.

Can't wait for the article on speakers. In fact, I'm already looking forward to a follow-up or two on how to buy the other parts of a system! (And one day I'll show you what my thrift-store bedroom system looks like.)
