I have a "Dollar Tree" dollar store in my town & every once in a while amid all the made in China stuff there is an odd item they got in some buy-out.  If you are a fan of depression glass you may want to check out the Dollar tree if you have one.  They carried over the Holiday season Luminarc (France) pressed glass dinnerware in ruby red.  It is like the old Anchor Hocking Ruby Red depression glass.  Luminarc is not expensive glass but a nice heavy affordable glass like anchor hocking.  They had the "antique" pattern (pictured) & a pebble pattern that I don't like as much.

I only got the few remaining pieces they had.  The manager said they only got in a small amount & that some woman bought a whole set when they first came in (lucky!).  He also said they were suppossed to go to Target but ended up at Dollar Tree instead, not sure what that meant.  Anyway its a super deal a set of those dishes would make a nice holiday place setting.  I am going to call around to other Dollar Trees to see if I can find more.

Ah! I know just the ruby red you're talking about because they're at, yes, Target around Christmas.

Hmmm...yes, we do have Dollar Trees around here. An my best friend collects this Target ruby stuff... I will have to let her know.

Woo-hoo!

They had some microderm kits at my Big Lots about 6 months ago.  They were like $3/ea so I bought 3, so that should last me about 2 years.  Last time I bought a microderm kit at regular price it was like $50 or $60.

Yeah, that's right.  I'm a guy and I microderm...  What can I say, I like to look good.

I was putting my dermabrasion kits up for a buy it now of $50.00 & people were snapping them up.  I found a new Homedics kit that was pretty much identical to the Susan Lucci kit at a yard sale for $2.00, so I gave it a try.  I think my skin is too sensitive for it or maybe I was just overzealous with the wand but it did not work out for me.  I did just find a copy of Dr. Perricones, The Perricone Promise at a thrift for 50 cents.  He's the dermatologist that does the PBS specials & has the diet that suppossedly works wonders for your skin.  We'll see!

That is probably very accurate.  I have a feeling they weren't suppossed to get those dishes.  I called another nearby Dollar Tree looking for more & they hadn't seen them at their store.

That also reminds me of when my father worked at Boston's Logan Airport.  Lots of stuff "falls off of trucks" to the employees benefit.  Especially shipments of fresh lobsters.  Cheesy

I told my friend about it and she I guess stopped on Thursday night, and didn't spy any. But still, didn't hurt to look!

Bummer. They didn't have any at the one near us. I think I saw these in Target about the time the Christmas shopping season began (September?), but I wouldn't pay retail for them since it was a want not a need. You really did good to score some!

I called another DT about 1/2 hour from here & they never heard of the dishes, maybe it was a fluke that happened at the one store.  I got 7 dessert plates 3 soup bowls & one dinner plate, which is pretty good.  I tip my hat to the woman who scooped up an entire set the minute she saw them.  The manager mentioned something about big bowls too, which I took to mean they might have had serving bowls as well!  Undecided

We are in pre-puppy mode.  Our little one is due in March, schedule to come home in May.  Lotto Grande (a.k.a Big Lots) has small rubber "busy" toys made by Kong/Milk Bone -- for a buck fifty (you stuff with treats and pup works on chewing that, rather than furniture!).  I grabbed a leash for the same price.  A few months back, I got a small and large collar from Tuesday Morning -- about 50 cents each (one for puppy days, one for when she's grown up).  I picked up ropey chew toys today and wee-wee pads.  It was all just about 8 bucks.  Would have been LOTS more at the pet store.

I always check the pet section at Lotto Grande... and I am glad I read this thread today and decided to go there!

Thriftily,
Alexandra

Do you think that all Dollar Stores get the same merchandise?  I have wondered if all the stores get the same products.

Some dollar trees are much bigger than others.  They have become much more sofisticated in the last several years.  I remember just a few years back they did not even have a computerized cash register!  The one they built in my town is new and is like a Dollar Tree super store.  They have really nice paper goods/party supplies.  One time another smaller Dollar Tree in my area got in a weird shipment of used sweaters.  It was like a thrift store bin of sweaters at the dollar store, some of them were brand names like Gap, etc.  There were actually a few good ones.  Very Weird!
