I've been finding some great books at my local thriftstores lately.  Yesterday, I picked up one called "Weird Florida" that catalogues the legends, lore, and weirdness of Florida.  It was a very cool find and I can't wait to go hunt down some of the stuff I've learned about in its pages.

Have you picked up any good books lately at your thriftstore?

Oh, boy, have I!

In the last month or so:

Got a big coffee table history of Hummels for two bucks.

Got Weird New Jersey (!) for a buck.

Got THREE coffee table books about medieval England, and one about the history of the royal families of England.  Each book cost me $1.

All of the above are intended for resale.

For myself, I found Mr. S, a book written by a guy who was Frank Sinatra's valet for close to 20 years.  I was looking for this book FOREVER, and found a hardback copy with dj for $4 -- that's a lot for me to spend on a book,  but I HAD to have it.  If you have any interest in Frank, this book is a must-have.  I couldn't put it down.

That Mr. S book would probably be really interesting to read!!  I always end up buying too many books to keep up with what I read.

I found a large coffee table book about glass artist Dale Chihuly, still in it's original plastic wrap.  No price listed but put out by a museum in Florida.  Obviously expensive but  I paid 1.50 for it.
I find all kinds of books at thrifts for cheap.  I found a hard back copy of the DaVinci Code for $2 long before it was ever out in paperback.  Good thing I got it cheap.  I really didn't like it.

The Dale Chihuly books sounds great! I would have grabbed that for sure. My fave thrift shop, (4 blocks from where I live & I don't have a car) has been having lots of 10 for $1.00 sales lately. They normally have that sale for one week per month, but this month they went for 2 weeks.Trouble is I keep buying books, then I take them in to trade at the used book stores for credit, but I still have too many books for my living space. I can't quit! Such deals, & I try to be reasonably picky.....The used book stores don't take that many books, they're very picky, they have so many copies of a lot of books, I try to pick put books I think they won't have, but it's a challlenge.....I really like finding "trade" paperbacks that are good. I loove travel books. I met a lady there who has an eBay store & she was doing pretty well with it from books she found at thrifts, but she said that eBay fees are going up....I can't figure eBay out, have never bought or sold on it. I use Craigslist....It's great to read about the books people have been finding.

Cookie and I too are buried in books. We have a decent library but we focus on specific things, usually.
Cookie will buy good books she finds on babies and parenting. As being a mother is her full time job, she's of course thrown herself into the task and reads much on the subject matter.
She also collects ANY and ALL cake decorating books that we find. I left my name at a used book thrift here local to us and said I was looking for cake decorating books. They got 5 in and called me. I was there within 15 minutes getting them, Cookie was thrilled.

I collect and read all kinds of major crimes books, mostly organized crime.

Because of my association with the SEAL Museum, I read alot of Special warfare books as well.

We're ravenous about our collecting, but as you can see it's all quite specific.

We LOVE BOOKS!
