I had a terrible day yesterday.  I felt like crap, and was frustrated and angry at work.  To reset my attitude, I stopped at two thrift stores on my way home and was rewarded with a couple little treasures.

First, I bought this old metal teapot for $6.40.  It wasn't silver and I didn't think it was pewter, either.  It had a carved wooden handle and knob on the top. I knew nothing about it, but I thought it was cool and in good shape.  It was stamped on the bottom, but the lighting in the store wasn't good enough for me to actually read it.  When I got home, I researched it on the internet and found out it was a Shaw & Fisher (Sheffield, England) Britannia metal teapot from the late 1800's!  I don't know that they are that valuable, but it's a great old thing with a mysterious history.  I love to look at stuff like this and wonder where it came from and what path it took to get to me.

Secondly, I got two nice pieces of Pyrex in great shape.  First, a lime green pie plate in great shape.  It's a nice complement to my pink Desert Dawn pie plate and my flamingo pink cake pan.   Now, if I decide to make two pies at once, I'm ready to roll (I haven't made a pie in 20 years so that's unlikely).  I also got a blue New Holland 2.5 quart casserole with lid.  This is from the 1970s.  I love the shade of blue on this pattern (I'd never seen it before).  Again, the condition is great with one teeny-tiny chip on the rim inside the lid.  It wasn't a bargain, but the price of $7.99 was fair.  It makes me want to whip up some sort of "hot dish" as we say in my native Minnesota.

It's amazing what a little sub-retail therapy can do for a girl's disposition.

You're right on about the retail therapy after a bad day, & you didn't have to scorch the upper limits of your credit cards either, you made some awesome finds for a few dollars. The teapot sounds fascinating, & I like your reference to "hot dish", I grew up in Minnesota also, & remember the "hot dish" well. Funny!

A trip to a thrift store always lifts my spirits, too!

For me, it's usually clothing or accessories that I find that get me excited.

Today, I was bored at work, so I took a drive to the Goodwill on my lunch.  Tried on a few things (that's always fun).  Ended up just buying a pair of Ann Taylor shoes for $7 and a gold cuff bracelet with silver elephants on it for $4.

I came back to work a happy woman!

Oh am I ever in good company! Nothing like a trip to your local thrift to lift your spirits and give you a new perspective on life! I went today to my local Catholic Thrift and found a vintage soft peachy/soft pink, almost like a nude plastic purse with a bakelite handle in the same color. On the purse was a black felt poodle with three green rhinestones for his collar and he was carraying in his mouth a little gold purse. His hindquarters and front legs were done in tiny tiny seashells, not one missing , it was in excellent shape. They wanted $10.00 for it but I didnt want to pay that so I asked the manager and he said $5.00. It really is so cute and sooooo vintage. Now I have to research it on Ebay except I dont know how to classify it, or what to type in the search engine, does anyone have any ideas? Seso, or Thriftshop romantic! Thanx in advance..... Wink

Thrift shops ar e great places to lift your spirits.  Last time I had a fight with DH I went to my favorite thrift and found an American Girl doll for $2.50.  Felt lots better after that, enough that I let Dh live a while longer:)

Hooray for retail therapy without guilt! I feel so jealous of mccoysnina and oceangurl. Purses and dolls.......I think my girly girl side is showing. nancy, you really do need to make a hot dish. Even if you don't use the New Holland, think about how pretty green bean and tater tot hot dish would look in one of those pink pie plates. It would be very Betty Crocker 1952!

LOL!!! Jeannie, you are the Bestest and Mostest.  I shudder to think what might have happened to DH if you had NOT found said doll...

Oceangurl go to the eBay boards, the board for Vintage Purses and Accessories, and I am quite certain someone there will be able to help you with your purse, especially since it has a bakelite handle. Grin

Oceangurl, go to eBay and put in vintage poodle handbag/purse, and see what you pull up. I would Google that, too.  Dianne, your advice is perfect--I never knew eBay had such a site. Thankee!

It was the only thing I bought that day too.  Nothing else I wanted and I only found the doll at the last minute as I was leaving the store.  Guess DH's Guardian Angel was looking out for him:)
