If someone at a thrift store sees you riffling through a collection of something and tells you they have more of that something in back...drop everything and RUN! Tell you why:

I was going through 45s at the Savers today and that's just what happened. Worker lady saw me and said, "There's more in back I can bring out for you...they're in a suitcase...there's like a whole $#!+load of them (her actual word)."

So what did she bring out?

Soul. R&B. UK pressings of British artists. A Tamla-Motown 45 of The Temptations  (in England, Tamla-Motown was one label). Groups like Fudge Lips, The Peppers, and Spaghetti Head. Original themes to S.W.A.T. and Soul Train. And TWO disco versions of Little Drummer Boy. All in sleeves; some in their original ones. I don't normally like to pay $.99 for 45s, but in this case, whether or not it was a good idea, I was more than happy to. So I got 50. Think I'll go get more in a few days if there are any left.

And that's not even the whole suitcase! There must be a couple hundred more still in there waiting to be put out. I'm doing everything in my power not to go back and make a lot deal.

I listened to some of this stuff last night, and WOW! I'm impressed. Here's a top 10 for your Youtubing/Googling/Binging pleasure:

Zenda Jacks: Earthquake
Pat Lundi: Party Music ( I LOVE the strings on this one)
The Peppers: Pepper Box
Tony Camillo's Bazuka: Dynomite (makes me proud to be from the '70s)
The Fatback Band: Yum, Yum (Give Me Some)
The Fantastic Puzzles: Come Back
Fudge Lips: Satan's Triangle (extra points for backing this with Please Come Home For Christmas)
Spaghetti Head: Big Noise From Winnetka
Lyn Collins: Rock Me Again (& Again & Again & Again & Again & Again)
The LTG Exchange: Waterbed

I think the most common 45 from this lot is The O'Jays' I Love Music. From there it just takes off into an alternate universe of soul...a very funky place, for sure.
