Willow ware is great for mosaics, I wouldn't smash a mint piece but there are plenty out there with chips (including a few in my pile) that would be great for that sort of thing.  If I knew how to solder I would make some jewelry out of some old dishes I have.

Boy did you ever score! WOW good for you. Hope this is a sign of good sales to come. Local church having a tag sale this coming Sat. I hope to check out. They have a habit of letting people in early and I don't agree with that. I think to make it fair for all they should stick to their start time. There are always a few dealers who try to wezzle their way in. Probably get a lot of flack on this but it's the way I feel.

I hope you found some good stuff.  I guess I know how you feel now.  I went to an Elks club sale yesterday that was supposed to start at 8:30, I was there a few minutes early & already the doors were open & people were browsing.  When I walked in a woman had a little pile at the checkout table that included several little pyrex fridge dishes with lids.  Boo!  I did get three nice needlepoint kits for a buck a piece though, so all was not lost.

Best find of the day was this vintage bracelet with dangling cherries & enameled leaves for a buck at a church sale.  Also a neighboring town was having a town wide tag sale.  I got over there kinda late & the first sales I hit looked picked over so I quit.   I did run into a few junk piles, though because this town was also having their annual bulk trash pick-up.  Too bad it is a rural town that is not densely populated.  I would have had to do alot of driving around in search of junk piles.  In the few I hit I found the vintage floral tablecloth pictured, a small McCoy planter, pink glass candy dish w/ lid, pattern unknown.  If I had been feeling more adventurous I would have tried to do more junking.

I have not had a chance to update you on my first weekend of garage sale season. The pouring rain worked in my favor and I got some fabulous deals.
However I have to tell you I caught one of your contageous diseases and came home with several pyrex casseroles and a piece of FireKing.

This coming weekend are 2 village wide sales so I will start Thursday and do my best to report back early next week.  Have been dragging my feet because I want to post pictures.

I'm glad the rain works in your favor, it usually puts a damper on sales here.

Uh oh...Pyrex flu!  There's no cure, either.  You're among fellow sufferers here, though, so it's not so bad.  Grin

Way up north we are just beginning to warm up, thaw out and think about having a sale. I was at a nearby town on Friday and happened across a couple of early bird sales along the way. One place had stuff that all looked to be in mint condition - you know the ones....every linen is washed, starched, neatly folded like it just came out of Gramma's cedar chest?? There was a pair of snowshoes as I walked in the door, a steal at $25. As I was about to pick them up, the owner said he'd just sold them. Next to them was a Coleman generator, in the original box....also just sold. poop. DH found a modern cast iron griddle and a dvd, total spent was $1.50.

Then we found a sign for 3 sales in one neighborhood a couple miles off the main road. Filled with anticipation off we went. Well, there is a religious sect in the area that doesn't believe in birth control, each family having 10, 12, 15 kids. Each one of the sales was at one of their homes and each one had very used baby clothes, a few things like car seats or bouncy seats. That was it. There wasn't so much as an old magazine, flower shop milk glass vase or coffee mug. poop again.

I hope this is not a sign of the sort of thrifting summer it will be!! I read your posts of finding vintage things with much envy. I will, rest assured, keep checking them out in hopes of uncovering an Antiques Roadshow quality item priced $10!!!

Does your local paper list sales ahead of time?  If you can check out the ads prior to Sat (some even start Friday), map out a route & get there at start time I am sure you can find some great stuff!
