Got a whole bag of craft patterns, including some collectible doll patterns at the overpriced SA today for $1.99 (7 patterns) all new.  That SA is so weird some things are grossly overpriced & then you find something very well priced like 7 patterns for 2 bucks.  They had a group of amber "Daisy" pattern (Indiana Glass) depression glass pieces priced at $180.00!  I told them that pattern was not that valuable, especially because there were no ice tea tumblers or harder to find pieces.  They don't care.

My best find of the day was from a freecycle offer of 2 garbage bags of fabric.  The bags had obviously been in someones basement & there was alot of musty disintegrating fabric that really needed to be thrown in the trash, but I did rescue a small piece of floral barkcloth, a cute feedsack, and some random pieces of floral fabric.

I will post a pic when I have had a chance to wash them.

I was in the GW today.  Found several yards of black lace fabric for $1-minus the 20% Senior discount the cashier gave me -- so 80 cents..  I shouldn't have gotten the discount  but the cashier looked tp be about 12 and prolly thought everyone over 30 looked to be a senior.  I used to do the same thing when I worked retail and it was senior day.  Never going to ask, much too dangerous!

I can remember when I worked retail...  Some people you just can't please.  You don't give them the discount, and then they come back, and you have to redo their entire ticket just to give them $0.75 back.  Then you give the discount to the next person, and then they're insulted, like you think they can't afford it.  Sometimes you just can't win.

The local Sal Armys used to give a discount to college students, but I don't see that advertised anymore, I never saw any signs for senior discounts so I don't know if they have ever done that.  Plenty of people take the five finger discount, if you know what I mean.  Shoplifting is pretty rampant at both SA's because they are foolishly lax about it.

Give me a senior discount or a student discount or an I'm having a good day discount - I will take it.

The season has arrived!  This Sat are 2 or 3 church sales, a few benefit sales (for individual medical things) and a HUGE school gym full of individual venders , crafts people and junk  cr*p
wonderful finds.  I am sure I will find sales on my ways to sales.
SPRING has arrived!

but I am jealous of your FC fabric.

I hated Senior Discount Day for that reason.  Either you were da@#ned if you gave it or d@!#ned if you didn't.  I couldn't win.  Got to the point I felt like keeping change in my pocket so I could just give poeple their few cent discount and not have ot redo the whole stupid sale.

Saturday is the unofficial yard sale start.  The local women's club has thier attic sale this Saturday.  Everything, as they say, but old husbands and used tea bags.  I have an old husband so I don't need another one anyway.
Looking forward to it.

Yep, there is a local church rummage sale here Sat & I am sure there will be a few local tag sales as the weather looks to be pretty good.  I am super excited as well!

I knew not to get too excited by the freecycle offer of huge garbage bags full of fabric, because I had a feeling alot of it was junk (actually trash) and it was.  But I broke out the oxyclean & salvaged this square of barkcloth with a lovely arts & crafts design to it.  I was actaully thinking of framing it, like people do with pieces of vintage wallpaper, because I have these colors in the livivng room & need more stuff on the wall, but I will probably have a hard time finding a frame of this size.

The groovy green fabric is a heavy weight fabric that looks like a curtain remnant.  The way the design is screen printed it looks like it is painted on.  I might use this fabric to line an old white American Tourister make-up case I got in a free pile.  I ripped the lining out of it because it was gross.  I think this fabric will look good against the white case.

Also pic of the whole feedsack I rescued (the water totally turned yellow when I soaked it).  It cleaned up well.

Thanks!  I haven't found one of those for a while & never at a thrift.  Makes me wonder what other great fabric is lurking in area basements/attics waiting to be found!

I also got a large piece of pretty madras fabric & a small stack of calico/floral/stripes, so not too bad for having to wade through a big musty mess.

Yard sale season got off to a good start here today, quite a few yard sales & one good rummage sale.  I spent about 17 dollars & got 2 chenille bedspreads, little vintage suitcase, box of vintage wallpaper rolls, box of vintage ornaments, including shiny brite, box of pink willow ware- which I have always wanted.  Also a frame in a size I needed, embroidered tablecloth to be used as a cutter, vintage french perfume, old journal from the 40's written in Italian (for paper crafting), tupperware pastry mat & the original bingomatic game (10 cents- bought it for the bingo cards, paper crafting again).

Also got a nice free wicker chair from a freecycle offer- yes spring has arrived!
I hope this is a sign of things to come!

Boy did you ever score! WOW good for you. Hope this is a sign of good sales to come. Local church having a tag sale this coming Sat. I hope to check out. They have a habit of letting people in early and I don't agree with that. I think to make it fair for all they should stick to their start time. There are always a few dealers who try to wezzle their way in. Probably get a lot of flack on this but it's the way I feel.

If they let people in 15 minutes early that is not too bad, unless only certain people get to go in.  If these dealers show up 1/2 hour or more early & they get in I agree that is not fair.  I never understand why the obnoxious dealers get let in early, why would you want to accomodate someone with a rotten personality?  Someone told me that there are a few dealers that go in the back room of the food bank thrift & make offers on stuff.  I was quite surprised to hear that.

I was pleasantly surprised at the yard sale situation today.  There were quite a few unadvertised ones.  The local paper just raised the price of tag sale listings so I guess that will probably be a trend this summer.  There are a few that are going on again tomorrow. I might go back & see if there is any free stuff!  I will post some pics when I go through stuff & get it cleaned up.

I snapped a picture of the pink willow dishes before I put them away (the tricky part of yard sale season, getting all the clutter put away/organized)  There is also a creamer & some fruit bowls, no teacups, I will have to be on the look out for those.

I was rewrapping one of the items with the newspaper from the church sale & I noticed that it was a newspaper from 1971 and the page was from the fashion section.  There was an article declaring hot pants as the new fashion craze.

Another fun detail from my yard sale haul was the key that came with the vintage suitcase I got.  It is a tiny skeleton key & someone put it on a vintage trimline phone key chain like this one:

Awesome dishes.  Of course, I'd take a hammer to them and use them in a mosiac which would probably make most collectors shutter.  I also love the phone charm.
