I was at the SA earlier and they brought out a new cart of bric-a-brac.  I spied something at the very bottom that appeared to be green depression glass.  I looked closer & almost had a heart attack because it was a footed piece in Jeanette's sunflower pattern (1920's).  I though it might be the very rare trivet pictured on the cover of my dep glass book, but it turned out to be the cake plate.  It was on the very bottom of the cart with tons of stuff piled on top, so I decided to go do another errand & come back.  When I did it was out, priced at 99 cents and in great condition despite being at the bottom of the cart.  The cake plates aren't very valuable, but 99 cents is a bargain & I finally have a nice piece of green depression glass!

I got this recipe box too for 99 cents, it matches the border on my my kitchen cupboard & is full of recipe cards & household hints.  It must be from 1950 because it has an order card for the new 1951 recipes.

It's a cute one, there is a manufacturer name on the bottom but I can't read it.  The cards inside are labeled Stanely Home Products so maybe it was purchased at one of those Stanley home parties.

Kind of a depressing yard sale day.  They started off so good back in April but have gone downhill since- anyone else experiencing the same thing?  I did pick up a few things- a 2 1/2 qt Pink Daisy Pyrex casserole nice condition for a buck- no lid, but I see orphaned lids all the time.  I have been getting into avacado green lately & have several planters now in that color so when I saw a vintage avacado rotary phone near mint for 2 bucks I couldn't pass it up.  One sale had vintage sewing patterns for 10 cents a piece which is the cheapest I have seen for a while so I got a dollars worth.  Mostly 70's stuff.  One is to make plush characters from the BBC series "The Magic Roundabout".  Anyone ever seen this show?

I did find an old flow blue souvenir plate which might be worth a few bucks and one sale did have some nice 50 cent clothing items.  But still an unsatisfactory feeling when you have dragged yourself out of bed at the crack of dawn hoping to find something special.

I went to three subdivision sales this weekend and scored a fantastic 1950s Lefton Headvase for $2.00. It was in mint condition...that was my best find of the whole weekend tho. I must have gone to over 100 individual garage sales and only got that and a 1970s etch-a-sketch in the original box for .25 cents. I hate waking up early too!

I was a little late getting out of bed Sat. But did manage to find a few things at the yard sales.  I seem to have a knack for finding chenille bedspreads, vtg. Christmas ornaments & boxes of cheap vintage dinnerware.  I got two out of three this weekend.  Three boxes of vtg. ornments for 50 cents each.  I was hoping to find some nice boxes for displaying this Christmas & the two older ones are in nice shape.  The chenille bedspread was at the same sale for 2 bucks, I think it is the nicest one I have found so far.  They had some cute dish sets at this sale too but had researched them on Ebay & had auction printouts next to the dishes (annoying!).  They had a whole set of vintage Mexican pattern dishes but wanted 50 bucks for them.  Too bad, that would have been funny if I picked up my three usual finds at the same sale.

Also got a cute vtg. summer bag for a buck.  Went to the food bank thrift after the sales & got a pair of vtg S & P shakers for a buck too.  They also had a tea set that looked like it was from the 60's with my Alma Mater UMass logo on them (3 bucks).  I might go back & get it tomorrow when will I ever see that again?

I love the bedspread!  I'm jealous!  I've been staying away from the thrifts because they are threatening layoffs at work again.  It's hard, especially when I read about deals like this.  Well done.

Boy I am glad I went to the Sal Army today!  I got a 14 inch round Luray platter in seafoam green for 99 cents!  Perfect condition too.  I almost missed it, but a woman I see there all the time pointed it out- I thanked her profusely!  It is good to check in often then you get to know the regulars & sometimes good fortune comes of it as in this case.  I had to rearrange my other Luray pieces, the platter is so huge compared to the other pieces I had to find some tall things to put next to it.  Unfortunately I don't have any Luray vases (very rare) so I used Westmoreland candle sticks (thrifted 3 bucks) and a pretty unmarked vase I got from the food bank thrift for a buck.

What happened with your collectible records, did they play OK?  Maybe you can sell those for some guilt free thifting $.

I solved the annual Father's Day gift dilemma today thanks to the food bank thrift.  Got a brand new digital photo frame for 5 bucks!  Funny because my father was asking me to email a few pics to him & I was going to print one out, frame it & send it to him, but the digital frame is even better.  Now only if the postage rates were a bargain, but unfortunately there is no bargaining with the USPS!

I know there are several melmac fans/collectors here so I thought I'd put up a pic of today's good find- a service for 8 set of vintage melmac!  I actually saw it yesterday & passed it up but thought better of it as a complete set for 10 bucks doesn't happen too often.  Glad it was still there today!

Hmmm, wasn't Melmac where ALF was from?  UFO dishes?

I never watched Alf, so I don't know anything about it except I think he ate cats (that fact was also highlighted on a recent "30 Rock" episode).  Interestingly enough there were a few 80's lunchboxes in the window at the Sal Army today.  Alf was one of them, Teddy Ruxpin (sp?) & Glo Worms were the other ones.  Alf had his thermos but it wasn't in very good condition.

There weren't many sales listed for today, maybe because of the weather, so I didn't bother to get up early.  There were two church sales that I heard were going to be good though.   I ended up going over to them when the dollar a bag deals started.  I didn't really expect to find much but I was pleasantly surprised, especially when I found this rotating color wheel for an aluminum Christmas tree!  I can't believe it was still there, I hope it works, I'll cry if it doesn't.  Got all kinds of other neat stuff too, funky 60's jewelry, a few more Shiny Brites, Gurley candle, Pampered Chef sifter, new looking Martha Stewart drapes.  The ladies at the sale were impressed at how much stuff I could pack into a paper sack!

Anyone else find anything interesting?

A color wheel for $1???  I'm jealous.  Here they want at least $40, even if they don't work.
