cute stuff! i love the little squirrel picture!

On the first day of the sale (they have been having their sale for almost two weeks now, ongoing)  I went over there and the woman wanted 20 bucks for the crewel picture, it was in perfect condition then, but still too much.  It must have become damp sitting in the garage which is too bad.

Usually when I see them the enamel is worn or something is missing, if they are in decent shape they will be marked 4.99 or something like that which I would only pay for a spectacular pin.

I hear ya. We RARELY find good ones that are completely intact for under $3.

So continues............ The Hunt!

I have been looking for vintage or vintage style drinking glasses with bold floral prints.  Today I found three sunflower glasses for 50 cents each at the food bank thrift.  Nice heavy ones, only problem is just when I got home & put down the bag with the glasses, something slipped from my hand and fell on the bag, breaking one of them.  So now there are two  Cry.

After I got the glasses I went over to the SA for 1/2 price day & was attracted to this top which reminded me of the glasses.  At $1.50 I figured why not.  Does anyone else end up shopping in a theme when you find a good item?

There was also a pyrex flameware double boiler complete with no chips at the food bank thrift for 2 bucks.  The inside pot had some scratches but not too bad.  I use a double boiler so seldomly that I couldn't even justify buying it for 2 bucks.  The other SA has a five piece set of Franciscan ware in the Merry-Go-Round pattern,  a coffee pot, teapot, 2 creamers & a cracked sugar bowl.  $7.99 for all which is pretty good even if you don't count the sugar bowl.  Not the most colorful pattern, but I might see if they are still there tomorrow.

I didn't find any $2000 Fendi bags (I'd sell that puppy in a second & treat myself to a weekend in the Hamptons) but I was pretty happy with today's finds.  At the Sal Army I found another enamel flower pin!  Thus one was $2 but nicer I think than the others & in mint condition.  If your area of the country is in a heat wave go to the thrifts for cold weather clothes.  I picked up a new winter jacket today for three bucks, it is really nice too.  Brand new w/ tags American Eagle wool sweater for 2 bucks too.  Last winter this stuff was so much more expensive & not as nice.  I also got a really funky vintage dress & matching jacket w/ the tags still on for 6 bucks, I'll put up a picture when I get a chance.

Not that often actually, but that doesn't stop me from buying them!  I will wear a smaller brooch on a sweater occasionally and a chunky one like this on a fall/spring jacket.  I also have a thing for beads which I only wear maybe a few times a month, but I would still grab any nice one I saw for cheap.

Today was hot, humid & miserable- but great for thrifting!  It started at Sal Army #1 where I picked up some pink swirl Fire King dinner plates at a buck a piece.  I saw them yesterday & decided to get them when I went back today.  Some other notable items that I didn't get was a Vera bedspread with splashy blue & aqua flowers for 4 dollars- I would have snapped it up but it was a twin & had some little condition issues.  A young guy who I have seen there before did put it in his cart, so it went to a good home.  They also have a George Briard chafing dish brand new with the tags & sticker for $8.  The design is pretty tame, a clear glass casserole with a sterling silver design applied to it.  I'm thinking about it.

At Sal Army #2 I got six Johnson Bros. Windsor fruit dinner plates & a sugar bowl for 89 cents each.   I found some bowls in this pattern several years ago at another SA & always hoped I would find more someday.  I left behind two with chips underneath, I may pick them up if they are still hanging around tomorrow, they are still good for display & use.

The food bank thrift produced a Vera linen dish towel with bright blue background, herb jars & herb design.  A vintage linen Christmas towel was also purchased- $1.00 for both.

Sorry no pics, but I am pooped from running around in the heat today, it is supposed to be raining tomorrow but I had such a good thrift week that I don't really care if I make it to any yard sales.

I had a pretty good thrifting day today, found a beautiful framed crewel embroidery picture for my collection, $3.  I recognized it as an Elsa Williams design because I have seen the kits before- here's what it looks like:

Got two vintage Bucilla kits at the food bank thrift for a buck a piece, one felt ornament kit and one funky mid century mod crewel embroidery pillow kit.

Lastly a very convenient find - a new in box amplified TV antenna for my bedroom that doesn't have cable (89 cents!).  I didn't realize those converter boxes needed antennas too until I went to hook mine up, glad I didn't buy one full price.

Finally a good offering of yard sales this weekend, it hasn't been a great yard sale summer.  I got really lucky to find a big unadvertised community yard sale that benefits the town's rec dept.  I got a box of vintage christmas ornaments for a buck and a pile of old embroidered linens- runners, napkins, towels, tablecloths etc for 50 cents each!  Also a large old fiesta mixing bowl- has chips but only 50 cents, will be good for display.  Old dishes for 10 cents each, a old shabby chic framed print for a buck etc etc.  I was in heaven!

There was a table with stuff I liked that was higher priced, I did go back later in the day but that table had already been marked half-price & the stuff I was eyeing (2 Pyrex amish butterprint bowls & a mint condition Dansk red enamel sauce pan w/ lid- like this- http://cgi.ebay.com/DANSK-IHQ-FRANCE-KOBENSTYLE-CAST-IRON-RED-ENAMEL-POT_W0QQitemZ370249849285QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item56349c59c5&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14) had been taken.

Did anyone else make out good w/ Labor Day sales?

I did OK today with garage/estate sales.  At one estate sale I found a small silver spoon marked Rolex watches for $1. Perfect size for dips and things.  I also found a thimble with a ship on top it, not for real sewing use, decoration only, for $2.
Another sale yielded some very large potholder, new, tags still attached for $.25 each.  I got all six they had as my current pot holders are in sad shape.
My find of the day was at the last sale we hit.  It was a gold plated silverware set, 8 knifes, forks andspoons with carving set and 3 serving pieces in a nice wooden box with this incredible hot pink velvet lining.  I liked it but it wasn't marked.  I asked the owner how much hoping he would make it impossible to buy by naming a high price.  Instead he said $5.  So the silverware set came home to live here.  Those were my finds today.  Had better days garage saling but had worse too.
Monday my favorite thrift is having a 50% off everything sale.  Definetly a must go.

Sounds great, it wasn't my best weekend either but the best one in a long time.  I hope the yard sales don't fizzle out after this weekend.  The thrifts here have been decent lately though.

I had to stay home (pout)  Angry   Someone thought going to the racetrack was more important. So what if he was the person second in charge of the event.
But I did find a pretty bowling ball at a neighboorhood yard sale for 10cents.
Will try to make up for lost time tomorrow. Surprised there are still sales going here. Usually quiet after Labor Day

Today was rainy & yucky so no yard sales but I did stop in at the food bank thrift and a little rhinestone bow-shaped brooch caught my eye.  I use old little rhinestone brooches for many things including with my Christmas decorations & they only charge 50 cents for them at this thrift.  I am glad I saw that brooch because it made me look at that area of the case a little closer and I saw a nice ring there which was partially hidden.  Turned out to be a vintage sterling ring with faceted black glass stone in the center & marcasites- so pretty and only a buck so I went home happy.

There were a few other things I wish I had bought now including a Yankee Candle Halloween jar candle & some Bath & Body works perfume that smelled good (blackberry vanilla), maybe they will still be there Monday.  Thrifts are closed around here on Sundays.
